PLAYING CATCH-UP

design darling mattock monogrammed bedding

*original post

Apologies for the radio silence for the past week! Will and I are back from our honeymoon and I have so many photos to edit and stories to share from our two weeks traveling through South Africa, Tanzania, and Kenya. It was honestly a life-changing trip for both of us — words and even pictures cannot do some of these places justice but I will certainly try my best! I hadn’t really gotten back into my regular routine in the ten days we were home between our wedding and honeymoon, so I really have my work cut out for me this week in terms of battling my inbox, shooting and writing new posts, writing lots of wedding thank you notes, and overcoming jetlag.

We just got a sneak peek of our wedding photos while we were on our trip so I have also been brainstorming how best to share those with you! I am planning to share photos from our rehearsal dinner, welcome party, and wedding day as well as posts about each place we stayed on our honeymoon. I haven’t decided how I want to space these posts out (once a week for the next couple months?) to preserve my sanity and give us all a little something pretty to look forward to each week. The alternative would be to share one full week of wedding posts and later a week of honeymoon posts so those of you who are anxiously awaiting pictures will see everything as soon as possible (and those who are oh-so-over the wedding content know exactly which days to skip). If you have an opinion one way or the other,  I’d love to hear it!

On that note, as I’m getting my butt back into gear this week, I’m all ears for any posts you’d like to see on Design Darling in the next few months. You might recall that I closed my online boutique almost seven months ago and now that wedding planning is also behind us, I’m excited to produce more of the blog posts you guys are pining for. Did you like the room tours from Nantucket this summer? Would you want to see more of those for our house in Connecticut? Are you interested in more travel guides, beauty picks, shopping round-ups, budget finds? What kinds of more personal posts would interest you? I spent some time on our flight home working on my (way overdue) third 101 in 1001 list and should have that ready to share in the next several weeks. Feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email with anything you want to see. I’m definitely trying to avoid the post-wedding blues over here so I’ll be taking notes and finding lots of new things to get excited about! 🙂

  1. Hi Mackenzie,

Congrats on your wedding!!! Would love to see all of the photos during one huge “Wedding Week”- definitely can’t wait any longer! 🙂

As for blog posts ideas, what about posting some of your favorite spots in Fairfield County (restaurants, bars, coffeeshops, stores, etc.)? As someone who also lives in CT, I’m always looking for new places to try out! I’m also a recent grad who started my own food blog- I’d appreciate any tips for building up my brand, owning a small business, time-management, being your own boss, etc.!

Thanks so much and can’t wait to see what’s next for you! 🙂

  2. Would love to see a week of wedding posts and a week of honeymoon posts! Also, I really enjoyed your career women interview series….wondering why that ended?

    1. I loved that series too! Truthfully it didn’t get nearly the amount of traffic as other categories I write about and it pained me to see these interviews with amazing hard-working women (that were also a ton of work for me to produce!) getting relatively little attention (and getting buried over time the same way outfit pictures do). Maybe I’ll try to brainstorm a new angle on this as it was fun to create content that was less all about me. 🙂 Thanks for weighing in!

      1. I would love to see more of this series (or a new version) as well! Style makes life fun, but substance is the core of the good life 🙂 I totally understand that driving traffic is harder for posts that aren’t primarily photos, but if anyone can figure out the secret sauce, it’s you!

  3. Welcome back! Glad to hear everything was great. I love non-sponsored decorating posts (so we can see what you really buy for your home). Would definitely like to see your house in CT, and really enjoy the design finds you post as well. I also love your reading lists!

  4. Hi Mackenzie! I LOVE your decorating posts so definitely more of those!

I’m going to Bermuda in a few weeks and staying at the Hamilton Princess. Can you give me some recommendations for restaurants/places to get drinks around the island? I was reading some of the things that you had already written about earlier today. Thanks!!

    -Caroline

  5. full out wedding + honeymoon week(s)! can hardly contain my excitement to see (and hear) about everything. i also vote ‘yes’ for new room makeovers in your CT home. <3

  6. We are getting married in May and hope to honeymoon in South Africa next fall!

Would love to hear more details about your trip and any learning experiences you may have encountered along the way!

  7. So excited to see all of your honeymoon posts, I’m planning my own safari honeymoon so would love to see all your recommendations at once!

I’ve just finished writing my second 101 list, looking forward to following a long with yours!

  8. Hi Mackenzie!

I would love more sentimental/reflective pieces. Additionally, since you have been through many phases of life (both personally and professionally) I would love advice from these different phases (ex: going to college, starting a job, a business, moving in with an so). All the best!

    1. Hi Emma! Thanks so much for the insight on what you’d like to see more of. I’ve covered a few of these in years past but can definitely add more reflective posts to the mix! In the mean time, here are a few posts that might strike your fancy 🙂

  9. I LOVED the Nantucket room tours and would love to see more of how you are decorating your home in Connecticut. I am all for more beauty posts – I really enjoy when other bloggers share their new favorite products, fall favorites, etc. as I am always looking for new products to try out.

I cannot wait to see wedding and honeymoon photos; no matter how you share, I am sure they will be amazing! Congratulations to you and Will!

  10. Welcome back!

I think a Wedding Week sounds super fun!

I love all of your content, but especially love your interior design aesthetic, so more room tours would be great. And I always love personal posts too, whatever’s on your mind.

Finally, I’d say don’t put too much pressure on yourself to get back into the swing of things too fast. You deserved the break and you deserve to slowly ease back into things as well xo!

    1. Thank you so so much for this, Kelly. It’s crazy the amount of pressure we put on ourselves and you’re right that disconnecting for a couple weeks can actually do wonders. Thank you for the vote of confidence! xoxo

  11. I’m a longtime reader who has never commented! I really enjoyed your Nantucket room tours, before and after photos are always make an impact; and I appreciated how you not only redecorated, but also reorganized areas. I think it was very smart that you used high/low price points as well.

Would love to see more home tour posts and of course wedding and honeymoon photos! Congratulations xo

  12. Can’t wait to see your honeymoon pics!! I just got back from a safari in Sabi Sands a month ago and I already miss it so much and am DYING to go back. I totally agree pics and words can’t do it justice, but I am eagerly awaiting to see more from your trip! It is such a magical place!!

  13. I personally really enjoy styled outfit posts opposed to roundups of 25 things under $50. Because then I can see what it looks like on someone (we’re similar sizes) and make a decision to buy. If it’s on a photoshopped collage, I usually won’t purchase it unless I physically try it on myself or if it’s from a brand I know my size in very well. As for the wedding pictures all in one go!!! It so much more fun to look at them when the memory is still fresh rather than dragging it out over a 2-3 month period. By then no one cares about the center pieces or where you got your shoes from. If that makes sense. Hope that’s a little helpful!! I love reading your posts.

  14. Welcome back! I vote strongly in favor of “wedding week”, and I’m eagerly awaiting the new 101 in 1001 as well as more room tours once you’re back in the swing of things in Greenwich.

  15. Would LOVE more tours of Nantucket house AND your new home in CT!!! Please please please!! Your decorating posts are some of my favorites, and I am dying to see the updates to both homes!!

Many blessings to you both in your journey together!!! From the pix I have seen, you were an exquisite bride!!!!

  16. As a bride planning my own wedding, I am all ears for everything you wish to share about your big day! Also if you have any suggestions for bridesmaid dresses that would be SUPER helpful! Some other ideas are the music list at your reception, list of designers you would recommend for dresses, more shoes you’d recommend, where your monogrammed napkins are from at the rehearsal, wedding registry, and LOTS OF PICTURES!!!
