For Fenway

I normally start each week with “Happy Monday!” but I’d be remiss if I did not mention something that’s occupying the bulk of my thoughts today. Our puppy Fenway unexpectedly passed away over the weekend and our hearts are full.

Fenway lived a full and happy life curled up at the foot of my bed or perched in my lap as I typed many a blog post. In fact we’d come to think of him as Design Darling’s very cute (though largely unhelpful) resident intern.
We’ve spent the past few days remembering all the times he made us laugh and the many everyday moments we took for granted. My dad, the biggest Red Sox fan I know, was quick to point out that Fenway led the team to two World Series championships in his seven years, a feat that many others had waited 86 years for.
Here’s hoping heaven is full of cuddles, doggy friends, and people food. Fenny, we love you and miss you more than you know.

  1. Oh honey I’m so sorry about your pup. You know puppy Heaven is the most special place ever made and he is most assuredly keep watch over you in between doing the things he loves most and watching over your Red Sox!

  2. Ohh Mackenzie, I just read about Fenway and my heart goes out to you. We had to say goodbye to my love Luna this winter and it really is one of the hardest things. I hope you can find comfort in lots of cuddling with Coach.

  3. I am so sorry. What a sweetheart. Your post to him is wonderful. I teared up. Oh don’t dogs make lives more wonderful? I hope that you’re able to remember all the sweet times and keep from getting too sad.

  4. ,,,yesterday i read this post and just weeped. you see almost a year ago (this may) we lost our dog, a sweet, fluffy bischon frise and well…life just hasn’t been the same without “him.” i’m convinced “fenny” has plenty of company “in heaven” that has him smiling!,,,

  5. I’m so sorry for your loss…I can’t imagine how heavy one’s heart would feel like after losing an adored pet =(. I have two puppies and can’t imagine our lives without them =(.

  6. So sorry to read the passing of your beloved Fenway. It is amazing the amount of love contained in their little furry bodies. I do think dogs do go to heaven.

  7. This makes me so sad 🙁 I know how hard it is to loose a sweet pup who was like a family member. I can’t imagine unexpectedly loosing her, though! Praying for you and your family, friend. Shasta and Fenway are playing in doggie heaven together now:)

  8. I am so, so sorry for your loss. One of my dearest dogs died suddenly one afternoon a few weeks ago, and it just broke our hearts; our home is not the same without him, and all our family, human and four-legged, feels his absence acutely. The only consolation we ever really have is hoping that their lives were happy whilst we shared them, and I have to say I’m tearing up just typing that. I like your idea of heaven–I hope for my Mr Skipper’s sake that there are belly-rubs as well.

Big hugs & sloppy kisses (from my other dogs, to yours),

    Laura

  9. Mackenzie I am so sorry for your loss. We think of animals as our family, ones who are there for us no matter what. I hope you and your family can get through this hard time and reminisce on the wonderful memories Fenway brought you all. You are in my thoughts- I know that must be very hard.

  10. Sweet Mackenzie, I am so sorry to hear about your precious pup. That experience is like none other and I can’t stand that you have to go through it. Dogs are the best of friends and are always always there for us, so when they leave us it seems even harder. Thinking about you and your family. Much love! xo

  12. awe, Mackenzie I’m so sorry to read about this 🙁 It’s so hard to lose a puppy, especially when they’ve grown up beside you.

Rest assured he’s in doggie heaven eating and playing until his heart’s content, and looking over you and your family 🙂

  13. I am so sorry! I can’t imagine how upset you must be. Our dog was recently diagnosed with cancer, so we are in the process of dealing with that. Luckily, she is okay for now, but I was preparing for the worst and I was just devasted. My thoughts are with you 🙁

  14. awww, i’m so sorry to hear this, mackenzie! i will be thinking about you and your family. i can’t imagine what that feels like. it makes me think about our 3 year old pup and how much we love him.. i’ll give him an extra hug tonight for fenway. i’m sure there are tons of cuddles and treats and people food in doggie heaven. 🙂

  15. Oh my gosh, I am SO SORRY to read this post, you must really be heartbroken!! Just a month ago I lost Snow, our cat, in a matter of half an hour, fast, totally chocking and very upsetting!!! I know people will tell you “time heals”, and right now it does not seem like that, but it is true. We will NEVER forget the joy and happiness these little animals bring into our lives, we hope that we give them a good life, as I am sure you did, but it is never easy to let them go!!!

    Take care of your self!

  16. I’m so sorry Mackenzie. He was such an adorable little guy! As far as I’m concerned losing a dog is the same as losing a human family member, and it takes a long time to feel back to normal. Take good care of yourself, I’ll be thinking about you and your family.

  17. I am so sorry, Mackenzie! We have two pups and they are like children to us and I can’t even imagine what you are going through! My thoughts are with you!

  18. Dearest Mackenzie

What a sad weekend, you are in my thoughts today. In fact, know that we all – your interwebs tribe – hold you tight in our thoughts today, thank you for sharing your special memories with us.

There is something so special about the unconditional love of an animal. He sounds as though he had a wonderful life here with you, how blessed you both were.

  19. I’m so sorry about your loss. i come from a huge dog loving family and when we lost ours I was heartbroken. People don’t always seem to be as sympathetic when somebody loses a pet, but it’s hard. i’ll be thinking of you and fenwayy!

  20. I am so sorry for your loss. Our little doggy just passed away about a month ago so I can definitely empathize with how you’re feeling right now.

  21. I am so sorry for you loss. My 6 year old dog Lily is battling lymphoma now, so I empathize with losing your best friend. My thoughts are with you.
