WEEKEND RECAP

I can’t believe it’s September! I had such an awesome August: my 25th birthday, a wedding in the Bahamas, progress on my 101 in 1001 list (a pottery class and an outdoor movie!), and a final summer trip to Nantucket! I love that every trip to Nantucket this summer has been a bit different… New friends, new restaurants, and new experiences. This time it was me, Amy, Emily, Will, Emily’s sister Sarah, and Emily’s boyfriend David. There was one night at dinner where I was laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face — so beyond lucky to have this crew in my life. Here’s what we squeezed in this trip:

lilly pulitzer placemats

A trip to the island is never complete without brunch at my grandmother’s. We always stop at the ‘Sconset Market for blueberry muffins to bring along — get there early or someone like me will have scooped them up before you’re out of bed. 😉

peter beaton striped shirt

Grandy just turned 87 and is still the funniest person I know. She and Amy are kindred spirits, evidenced by their matching Peter Beaton shirts (…and Amy wearing Grandy’s engagement ring).

nantucket cisco beach

After brunch we threw on our swimsuits and headed to the beach. I’ve gotten a few emails asking about the best beaches on Nantucket and it’s really a matter of personal preference. We always mix it up! I like Cisco (above) for big waves, Madaket after lunch at Millie’s, Surfside in June or September when it’s not too busy, and Tom Nevers for peace and quiet.

cisco beach nantucketI borrowed Sarah’s headphones (why do I never seem to have a pair on hand?) and fell asleep on the beach listening to country music… Basically my idea of heaven on earth. Especially when I woke up to this sunset — the photo really doesn’t do it justice. Pure magic.

white elephant nantucket

That night we ate dinner at the Boarding House and we all raved about it for the rest of the trip — definitely a new favorite spot for me. The next day we brought Grandy to Brant Point Grill at the White Elephant, a beautiful spot right on the water. I could have camped out on one of these hydrangea blue loungers all day!

met on main nantucket

Three more new-to-me spots on this trip: Dune (delicious cocktails), Beachside Bistro at the Summer House (unreal lobster roll), and Met on Main (necessary iced coffee after a night out).

mott 50 sun protective shirt

I may or may not have thrown on this striped shirt (c/o) three times this trip. In addition to being a fun twist on classic navy and white stripes, it offers built-in sun protection. It’s by a company called Mott 50 that designs clothing with an ultraviolet protection factor of 50 (for comparison, your average white t-shirt is only 5 UPF). For fair-skinned girls like me, it’s practically a godsend.

hedge mailbox

Amy and I took a cruise around town and stumbled upon this perfectly manicured mailbox-in-hedge situation. So cute! Of course the house behind it wasn’t too shabby either…

tommy hilfiger house nantucket

The house belongs to Tommy Hilfiger’s ex-wife and could be yours for the bargain price of $24.9 million. 😉 How stunning are the turquoise shutters?

u.s. open

Will and I spent Monday back in New York at the U.S. Open. It was hot hot hot outside but really fun to watch his favorite sport and learn more about the rules since I tend to avoid sports that involve any hand-eye coordination. All in all, it was a pretty perfect long weekend and an ideal way to say so long to summer. Now bring on the cable knits and riding boots — who doesn’t live for fall in New York?!
