This post might be a little overdue (hello, it’s been two weeks since our trip to Montauk!) but I like the pictures (and the memory!) too much not to share. It’s really starting to feel like fall in New York so it feels like it’s been forever since Amy and I were frolicking on the beach. But despite the summery setting, a couple of the pieces I was wearing are from J.McLaughlin’s fall collection, which you will not want to miss. Stripes and a leather shoulder patch? Say no more.

You can always follow along on my weekend trips by checking #designdarlingtravels on Instagram or peeping my travel guide on the blog. I head to Charleston with a bunch of blogger friends in a couple weeks and booked a little fall getaway to the Falls Village Inn for the end of the month so I’m super excited for both of those! Follow me on Instagram here.

Oh and while we’re on the subject of travel… I’m hoping to schedule a beach vacay to somewhere in the Caribbean for the week in between Christmas and New Year’s (since November and December tend to be the craziest months for the boutique!) and would love your recommendations. I’ve only ever been to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico so I would LOVE to know where you’ve visited, where you stayed, and any tips you have. If your advice is anything like it was for past trips to Atlanta and Austin, many thanks in advance! xx

  1. You look great Mackenzie! Also I am very excited you are taking a trip after Christmas! You will need it after the Christmas craziness. I can’t wait to see you in New York after New Years!

  2. Hi! I’m excited to hear you’re heading to Charleston in a few weeks! I go to College of Charleston. It’s a beautiful, tiny city. You’ll fit right in! Lots of little cobblestone alleys, wonderful food, and prep everywhere. Enjoy your trip! If you’re having an event, I would love to check it out. Can’t wait to hear more.

  3. Oh definitely go to Anguilla!!! My husband and I go there every year and it’s just fabulous. The best beaches, a gorgeous island to explore, and amazing restaurants. I’ve even had a few celebrity spottings there. Check out Cap Juluca which I think is the best resort on the island. The Viceroy is also wonderful and there are a lot of other rentals on the island. I could go on and on.

  4. Well you are in luck – the Charleston weather should be absolutely perfect by the time you arrive. We had our first spurt of mid-70s this weekend. Make sure you bring an appetite – you’ll need it!
My recommendations for a Caribbean vacay would be to one of the Virgin Islands – I have been to pretty much all of them over the years but my favorites definitely include: St. Croix, St. Barths, & Anguilla.
And just wanted to let you know that I love the way you style your converse. I always love to see style posts that include relaxed looks in addition to dressier outfits.

  5. You should continue to explore the Bahamas! The Abacos are my absolute favorite! I think you would LOVE Hope Town (the firefly resort is gorgeous) or Eleuthera….one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited! If you pick Eleuthera plan a trip with Tom from Bahamas Out Island Adventures! He can show you the most incredible parts of the island (and give you a day filled with adventure )

  6. I was in Turks and Caicos in August. The beach is BEAUTIFUL, but may be a little chilly in late December (not sure, but its in the Atlantic). My family is from the Dominican Republic and I LOVE it there. You could stay at the Hard Rock!

  7. I love the leather shoulder pads on the shirt, very stylish! I highly recommend the Cayman Islands for a relaxing vacation. The beaches are pristine, the people friendly and the island is really manageable. I’ve only been to the main island, Grand Cayman, but I hear the other two (Little Cayman and Cayman Brac) are just as gorgeous. If you’re feeling extra adventurous get scuba certified before you go because the scenery under the water is just as amazing as on land! I’ve been 4 times and am planning my next trip for this upcoming winter, there is something new to discover every time!

  8. we stayed at the Ritz in Grand Cayman…highly recommend it

we’ve also stayed at the four seasons in Great Exuma…loved! i think its now a sandals resort
