I can’t believe it’s already time for the One Room Challenge week three update! (Here are week one and week two updates in case you’re just tuning in.) We had such a productive weekend with Will’s mom in town (many hands make light work!) clearing out clutter, moving out furniture, and assembling new pieces as they arrived.
Week one:
Week three:
(Rory thinks the One Room Challenge is all about him. 😉 ) The new chairs were a Joss & Main find and instantly lightened up the space. I love them with these Serena & Lily pillows, whose suede corners pick up the cognac leather of the sofa.

Week two:
Week three:
Say hello to the West Elm Malone campaign dresser! This piece is STUNNING in person — we literally gasped when it arrived. The gold hardware is gorgeous and the drawers hide a multitude of bachelor pad necessities like ping pong balls, solo cups, and superfluous electronics. 😉 And one day, when we don’t live in tiny New York apartments, it will be right at home in a walk-in closet for Will. It combines my love of campaign furniture with Will and his roommate Mike’s masculine aesthetic and need for storage — that’s what we call a win win.
Week one:
Week two:
Week three:
We also picked up these West Elm frames for a few of Will’s favorite art pieces. I wasn’t too keen on a couple of pieces until I saw them framed in linen and gold… It’s funny how the right frame can take artwork to the next level.
Week one:
Week three:
We happened to find the perfect bar cart at West Elm as well so stay tuned for that in next week’s update! Right now we’re focused on finding a coffee table we both like (how many more weeks will I type that sentence?) and waiting for artwork and frames to arrive so we can tackle hanging the gallery wall. I head to Charleston this weekend so I’ll be hard pressed to make more progress before and after the trip.

not crazy about the rug; it looks too thin and could be a trip hazard beside can see it getting dirty quickly.
But you are finding some great furniture pieces!
What a huge transformation in just a few weeks! I can’t believe how different the room looks! And I love that couch! Wow.
The transformation is looking great so far! I’m curious/excited to see how the art frames are going to look!
Looks good! Enjoy Charleston! I spent Memorial Day there a few years ago and adored it 🙂
High Cotton was a great restaurant and I really liked visiting the Boone Hall Plantation (where some scenes from The Notebook) were filmed!
Have a fun trip!!

i love everything west elm is doing lately. such a great mid century-inspired line right now! this is looking great!
Funny the one thing that stood out for me was the coffee table! Thought that needs to go and quickly! Wasn’t until I got to end of post and saw it’s on the list to replace. I vote for a marble/brass version. Ps. Love, love the interesting throw pillows!

Hi Mackenzie! Love the decor and the new content on your blog lately….just wondering if you decided to scrap the Weekend Outfit posts? I loved those and looked forward to them every week….recently noticed that you haven’t posted one lately so wondering if it didn’t make the cut in your redesign.
Thank you and happy Wednesday!
Asha
It is a changed room and I am sure your BF is delighted to be a part of the ORC! Looking forward to seeing more….
This looks awesome! You have such a great sense of style and I love how you’ve kept it masculine, but everything looks incredibly polished and pulled together! That’s a hard line to walk. One comment, and I could be totally off base here, but from the photos it looks like the art above the sofa might be hung a tad high. Generally the center of a piece should hit about 58″ off the ground – or at least that’s gallery standard. Gah, I know I”m super annoying and nit picky! But if it is hung high (and again I’m just looking at the photos so I could be totally wrong), that would be a cheap (free!) update you could do to the living room that might make a difference 🙂
This is ah-mazing!! Feeling inspired!

It looks so good! The TV stand looks so much nicer in person than it does online and the room is so much lighter! Rory looks right at home!
The chesterfield and that West Elm campaign style dresser make all the difference in the world. And the striped rug brightens and enlarges the space instantly. Great choices so far.
I love it! the space definitely got brightened up by all the new furniture! Those chairs are awesome
