OUTFIT: PINK BALLET SLIPPERS

If you’re planning to be in New York this holiday season, do yourself a favor and swing by the new Polo flagship store on 55th and 5th. There are three floors of men’s and women’s clothing and shoes as well as an adorable little coffee shop. My cousin and I visited the store a few weeks ago and did a little damage with her employee discount. I couldn’t resist this hot pink sweater, which is easily the softest, comfiest, coziest thing I’ve ever put on my body. I’m already saving my pennies to purchase it in other colors…

The lovely people at Tieks sent me these ballet flats in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Not only are Tieks flats supremely comfortable, they roll up into themselves so I can toss them in my bag when I’m wearing heels out and might want to change into flats for my walk home. But most important is their mission to educate women about early detection for breast cancer, a cause that’s near and dear to so many of us. Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime? But that early detection in the localized stage puts the five-year survival rate at over 95%? It’s been estimated that if every woman over the age of 50 had her yearly mammogram, breast cancer deaths in that age group would drop by 25% or more. Here is a list of more ways you can increase your chances of early detection, including clinical breast exams and self-exams for women in their 20s and 30s (like so many Design Darling readers!). Thank you Tieks for educating women about early detection — I’m proud to help spread the message!
