I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a thousand more times, but Pinterest is really a girl’s best friend when it comes to decorating. Right now I’m on the hunt for a new sofa (my current one has seen a few too many puppy paw prints…) and I keep turning to my interiors board for inspiration. What’s your favorite sofa style? Should I go with…
…something feminine and structured? (similar styles here, here, and here)
…something darker and more square? (similar styles here, here, and here)
…something tailored and trimmed? (similar styles here, here, and here)
…something navy blue? (similar styles here, here, and here)
…a neutral roll arm sofa? (similar styles here, here, and here)
…something bold and bright? (similar styles here and here)
…or a statement-making striped sofa? (similar styles here and here)
I also really love this and this, two affordable options from (where else?) Ikea. I’d love your thoughts! What sofa do you have chez vous?
Shop the post:
If you have a local upholstery shop you like (I’m sure it’s expensive in ny… ugh) I would reupholster a vintage number and then have 1 or 2 slip covers made. I had a classic vintage english roll arm sofa reupholstered in a grayish-navy fabric and the total cost ended up being around $800, which was about the same as an off the rack option. I also am planning on having a couple white, machine washable slip covers made for when I want a quick refresh. Alternatively, reupholstering is too expensive in your neck of the woods, I would buy an english roll arm piece and then have a local seamstress/upholstery shop make a slip cover for you. Two looks, one sofa and puppy prints can be washed out!
I love my Ektorp sofa from Ikea. It’s not the most fashionable but it’s a nice simple design and it comes slip covered so you can change it up and wash those puppy print off! Just know that if you wash the cover is a lot easier to put the covers back on while they’re a little damp!
Navy. Tufted. $350. Enough said. I have this one and I love it! http://www.walmart.com/ip/9-by-Novogratz-Vintage-Tufted-Sofa-Sleeper-II-Navy-Velour/38352235
I also considered this beauty, but ended up going with the navy above because it was bigger and more practical: http://www.worldmarket.com/product/cloud+blue+abigail+loveseat.do?&refType=&from=fn

Blue velvet! Beautiful and timeless. I’ve also heard that celebs isn’t actually that bad for dogs/ cats / kids.
Hello! I just bought a navy velvet sofa and I’m obsessed! It seems very durable and the fabric feels like it will look good for a long time! And it folds out into a bed! Pretty affordable as far as sofas are concerned as well. Its also very long which I love. Happy shopping!

You have so many great options to choose from, but I’ve been regretting my newish sofa for want of something vintage. My mom just had our retro family sleeper sofa reupholstered and it.is.divine. Good luck deciding!
Love the striped sofa!

Dark and comfortable! Love the idea of fabric slipcovers as others have suggested. Such an easy way to update your sofa every now and then and have some fun with it! x
I recently bought a new sofa from an eco friendly company here in L..A., called Thrive Home Furnishings. They are more mid-century modern in style but are just beautiful and good quality. Mine was made and delivered (locally) in just two weeks. They do ship all over the U.S. http://www.thrivefurniture.com. Good luck.
I love the striped sofa!!
Seriously obsessing over the striped sofa! Daring move, but I go for it!
I personally vote you get something with fabric slipcovers. I have a navy velvet sofa from west elm, it is easy to clean but it shows all the dog hair. If you get an ikea sofa, check out bemz for slipcovers. If I don’t get a pottery barn sofa for my next one I am getting an ikea one and then getting a few bemz slipcovers since they have solids, stripes, and even gingham! I love that when you want to change it up (or your dog ruins it) you can just get a new slipcover.
oh also, theeverygirl.com is currently giving away a sofa so you should enter to win it! I think you would really like the rose.
I think you should go with a classic roll arm! I love the OKL one that you linked. It’s classic and easy to incorporate into new spaces should you ever move. If you want something brighter you could recover it, but to me the most important part is I think it is HANDS DOWN the most comfortable option (what’s worse than an uncomfortable sofa???).
Oooh how fun! I have a white sofa (Pottery Barn Bradshaw) and honestly, don’t do it! It’s too stressful having a white sofa. All of my friends that come over are scared to sit on it, especially when we’ve got a bottle of red open 😉 I wish I would’ve gotten a dark grey or something less precious.
Although not your color scheme, I’m dying for a dark, hunter green velvet one à la Sarah Jessica Parker’s interview on Vogue. You should consider a navy or dark grey velvet!
I agree! Pinterest really is the best! Love the navy one!

i’m seriously in love with blue sofas… just look at emily henderson for inspiration, you will fall IN LOVE.
Navy blue or neutral! All are gorgeous though!
if your pup is allowed on the sofa, go with ikea. I have two big dogs that are allowed on the sofa and I was tired of worrying about them accidentally destroying my expensive vintage sofa. So I sold it and bought a Karlstad (with washable slipcovers!) and switched out the legs for something a bit sexier. It looks great in my midcentury home and I no longer worry about my dogs being dogs. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the good of your pup and your sanity. If you don’t go the washable slipcover route, invest in a carpet/upholstery cleaner or commit to having the sofa professionally steam cleaned twice a year. Good luck!
I have a big white couch that I looooove. So comfy and fits nicely with my room. However, there are several (red wine) stains, so I’m saying go with the navy option! So pretty!
I still love a neutral roll arm sofa. Can be dressed up with bright pillows and a textured throw!
So many great options here! I currently have two neutral straight-arm sofas, which I love being able to add different colors and textures with pillows, blankets, etc. according to season.
