FIRST WEEK IN DALLAS

I’ve officially been in Dallas for five days and it’s been a whirlwind to say the least! Here’s a little peek at what we’ve crossed off so far… Moved into my office, got a car, moved into our house, unpacked the master bedroom (and my dreamy walk-in closet!), got Internet installed at the house, shipped a bunch of orders, unpacked the kitchen… The list goes on. We’ve gotten on a really good schedule of going to bed early and waking up at 6 or 7 — here’s hoping it sticks when Will starts work in a week! It’s been so, so nice having him around all day and I’m so glad we took time to travel and unpack together before he starts his new job and I settle into my own new work routine.

I had a mini meltdown halfway through the week when I felt like I was falling behind on shipping orders and wished my family weren’t so far away because they’re always willing to lend a hand when I get overwhelmed, something I’ve definitely taken for granted in the past. But it was nothing a call home couldn’t remedy and I’m really pleased with all the progress we’ve made here in just a few days. (To say nothing of the state of my inbox… Send help.) I imagine it’s going to take a few more weeks to get fully unpacked — and by then my parents will be making their first trip to visit us in the new digs! I can’t wait to have them here (my dad’s first trip to Dallas!) and explore the city with them.

Last night we took a break from the unpacking and went to the Dallas Arboretum with Will’s parents to watch a Texas swing concert on a hill overlooking White Rock Lake. We laid out a bunch of Turkish towels (have you seen the new ones in the boutique?), poured a glass of rosé (this one is a new favorite), and watched the sun set over the water. It was such a simple and beautiful moment and one that reminded me exactly why we moved here. We laughed remembering an outdoor movie that I dragged Will and our friends Jane and Scottie to last summer in New York, which wound up being on a basketball court in Murray Hill with traffic whizzing by in the background… Not quite as serene.

Thanks for bearing with me during this time of transition, whether you’re waiting for a new blog post or an email response. My dad’s favorite phrase keeps ringing in my ear every time I feel myself getting overwhelmed by the size of our to do list: just chip away at it. I have a feeling we’ll be doing a lot of that this weekend… I hope you have a good one too!
