You might recall that one of the tasks on my first 101 in 1001 list (which you can still see here!) was to find my signature scent. My mom and I spent maybe an hour at Sephora spritzing different perfumes and I wound up going home with this and this. I love both and tend to rotate them to keep things interesting but the first is my tried-and-true number one favorite.

Unsurprisingly, I encouraged Will to write his own 101 in 1001 list a few months back and had a lot of fun helping him brainstorm goals both big and small. He’d never really worn cologne so I thought it would be find to go find his signature scent (and a perfect indoor activity when the temperature breaks 100 degrees…). We both fell in love with this one and I kind of love that our signature scents are the same brand! Do you have a signature scent? How did you find it? I always love knowing what people swear by — it’s such a particular thing!

  1. My newest is Angeli di Firenze, from Santa Maria Novella in Florence. I like classics. In the past, Creed Mille Fleurs was my choice- it was created for Grace Kelly for her wedding.

My first, in my 20s, was Coco. Still love it, still wear it in the winter, and I like when people tell me the strong scent reminds them of me.

  2. I LOVE Roses de Chloe. Hands down my favorite perfume I’ve owned, and I have been into perfume ever since the firs Vera Wang Princess came out (adored it in high school, then I felt it became too mainstream ;)). I also like Florabotanica by Balenciaga for going out or a date night since it’s a little stronger and definitely makes me feel a little sassier. I like Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh for a lighter daytime scent. I could really go on about perfume forever!

  3. I have a fun tradition to share with you! In my family, our maternal grandmother chooses a scent for each granddaughter and provides a bottle for her. My mother continued the tradition for my daughter, as I will do someday.

My chosen scent is Bellodgia by Caron, which is a light, spicy floral of carnation and rose. I cherish the original bottle I received, and keep a fresh one to spritz my office every now and then. The scent always takes me back to my childhood and beloved Grandmother.

However, as girls do, I branched out and tried many perfumes. My signature scent has been Calyx by Prescriptives. In fact, if I try to wear much of anything else, I develop a headache, which is so unfortunate, but I do love and never tire of my Calyx.

Fun post and good for you to encourage Will to create his own list!

  4. My signature scent used to be Emilio Pucci Acqua. It’s really light and refreshing — great for summer. Unfortunately I’ve run out and am hoping to find something new. Will have to sample some of the recs posted here!

  5. My favorite is Chloé! Ever since I first tried it, I’ve only wanted to wear this perfume. I’m usually not one for floral perfumes, but this is the exception! I keep a bottle on my nightstand and a rollerball in my purse because I love it so much.

  6. Oooh, how fun! My signature scent is Jo Malone’s Earl Grey & Cucumber, after trying (and liking!) Orange Blossom and Wild Bluebell. I like that it’s a little bit spicy and A LOT bit unique. So refreshing year round.

  7. My signature scent is Beautiful by Estee Lauder…both my mother and grandmother wear it so it makes me feel close to them when I wear it (I live 2000 miles away).. But before you think I smell like an old lady, you should smell it yourself. It is classic, sexy and appealing. I love it and others must too because it has been an Estee Lauder fragrance FOREVER!

  8. I like to go seasonal with scents–fall & spring I like Diptyque’s L’Eau de Tarocco, winter is Jo Malone’s Wild Fig and Cassis and summer is Bobby Brown’s Beach.

  9. I swear by Dolce and Gabbana The One for spring and summer. For fall and winter, I like Tiki Monoi Vanilla Perfume. It’s relatively unknown but smells amazingly warm and a little Amber like. I used to love BBW sensual Amber but it is hard to find in stores.

  10. I have find my signature scent on my 101 list too (inspired by you of course!). I haven’t pinned down my scent yet but my boyfriend also wears Polo Blue religiously. It picked it out for him about 4 years ago as a Christmas present when we first started dating and he’s been wearing it ever since. And confession: I like the scent so much I sometimes spritz a bit on myself before a date night (:

  11. I wore Ralph for a while! I love the scent on its own, but it’s not quite “me”. SInce then I have a steady rotation of Burberry Brit (only in the Fall and Winter) Burberry Summer and Jo Malone’s Nectarine Blossom & Honey and English Pear scents, which you can layer or wear on their own. So much fun!

  12. i do have a signature scent! It is Feminine by D&G. They no longer make it so I’m savoring my last bottle. I always liked the smell of it and found I got a ton of compliments whenever I wore it. Hence it became my signature!

  13. Your signature scent will always be one of my faves and WIll’s is one of my all-time favorites for men, too! What an on-brand couple! 😉

Oddly enough, I found my signature scent by accident – a family member visiting from Europe had brought my mom Chanel Chance as a gift. She never wore it, so one night when I was seventeen I decided to give it a try. Up until then, I’d had perfumes I loved but their scent didn’t last long on me (a sure sign they’re not totally gelling with your chemistry). I got SO many compliments on how I smelled whenever I had on Chance, even hours after I had initially applied, that I knew it must be right for me. It’s fun having a smell that people associate with you personally and I thought it was a great item to have on your original 101 in 1001.

  14. I absolutely love Polo Blue for guys….good choice, Will.

I wear ‘By Kilian Love’ in the summer but recently switched to Aerin Lauder’s Ikat Jasmine (in the form of body lotion). Both are incredible for warmer months.

In the fall and winter, I like Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb or Chanel Chance, which I think you’ve said is the scent you associate with me! 😛

  15. Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche. Came across it once in Ulta and loved it but didn’t buy it. A few weeks later, my mother gave it to me as a Christmas gift. Three years later, still my absolute favorite that I always come back to!

  16. It took me ages to find my signature scent! As of the past two or so years it’s been Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid. I always get complements when I wear it and it’s a bit of a mix between masculine meets feminine. I love it especially for a night out. xx
