Wooohooo! We’re in week two of the One Room Challenge and I’m slowly but surely getting my ducks in a row. This week I dropped off fabric for drapes, secured a replacement dresser, ordered mini chandelier shades for the sconces and lucite curtain rods for the windows, and started looking at new bedding. (If you need a refresher on where we started, check out week one here.) Otherwise, let’s dive right in!
The drapes will be in this Dana Gibson for Stroheim cobalt and white ikat Madagascar fabric with a navy border on the inside edges to tie in the navy headboard. (I love cobalt and navy together!) I ordered the fabric from DecoratorsBest and received my giant bolt of fabric the next day. I also ordered my favorite Dana Gibson for Stroheim blue ginger jar Canton wallpaper for the powder room. No surprise there! I have admired this pattern forever and can’t wait to see it in our home.
Now for the dresser! I am so excited about this piece. I worked with the amazing team at The Collected Eclectic Home (we met through Instagram!) who scouted this incredible bamboo dresser that’s the perfect dimensions for the guest bedroom. If you’re looking for vintage furniture in Texas (or want someone to paint or lacquer an existing piece of yours), I can’t recommend them enough. Isn’t this gorgeous?
Now we have to decide what color to paint it. Since this is our guest bedroom and we won’t be staring at the space every day, I want to go bold and pick a color I might not use in our living room or master bedroom. That’s where I’d love your help! I have a few ideas — we’ve narrowed it down to green, lavender, and orange — but I’d love to know which is your favorite now that you’ve seen the headboard and gotten a sneak peek of the drapes. Here are a few inspiration images:
Which color would you choose for the dresser? Be sure to check back in next week to see what I decide on and don’t forget to check out the other awesome bloggers here:

My vote is definitely for lavender!!!
Love your choices so far….and that bolt of DG fabric is so darn perfect!
I vote Lavender 100%! It is peaceful, complimentary and unexpected. I have seen greens and oranges with the blues but never the Lavender. And, just my opinion, but blue and orange could read a bit like a sports team color (although I personally do like the combo anyway). Can’t wait to see what you pick!
I think either the green or lavender would be stunning! Love that you are doing the One Room Challenge again! Love following along 🙂
Ahh all three colors send completely different vibes. I would love to see the Orange!! I think orange and blue rooms are stunning. It’s such a sophisticated yet quirky color combo.

I LOVE the blue fabric and cobalt and navy together, how perfect! I am torn blue and orange are great together, but so are blue and green! Both would give a nice pop for the dresser…can’t wait to see what you pick!
Green!!!!
I love the plans for color combinations! The bright furniture as inspiration is stunning as well, with the gold accents. This is going to be a gorgeous room!
Lavender would be gorgeous with the shades of blue! That dresser is fantastic, too – such a great find.

lavender – pale, peaceful, and unexpectedly fun!
I think lavender would be stunning with the navy & cobalt! It’s going to be a great bedroom.
I love all the colors, can’t wait.
Ohhh I would so do lavender…
ORANGE!!!
The dresser is gorgeous! I think it would look wonderful painted green! But it would look pretty awesome in lavender or orange as well! Good luck making that choice!
Lavender, 100%. I think it would balance out the bright blues and ensure that the room is still peaceful enough for your guests to feel like they’re able to relax – not forgetting that its a room for sleeping as well! Loving watching this room come together. x
Without hesitation..Lavender!
I’m always a huge fan of Kelly green!!! Also, I’ve had my eye on that wallpaper for a while- but I don’t need 2 rolls, let alone a full one.. So if you have extra at the end I’d love to buy it off you!!!
Go with the green!
Amazing choices! I say lavender.
Looking beautiful!

Green laquer! Classic and you never get tired of green. Orange I love but feel like it’s trendier.
Can’t wait to see the finished product! I think lavender would look super pretty!

orange! it’s so good with blues
That dresser is beautiful and I vote lavender!
Love that Dresser !!! Exactly what I am looking for. Do you know any places similar to Collected Eclectic Home in the NYC area ?? I am moving there ekk!
I don’t, I’m sorry!
Yay for blue and white! Love the fabric and wallpaper you picked!
Green! Can’t wait to see how the room turns out!
I painted an end table in my apartment orange and I just think its looks great with blue (hello complimentary colors) and gold accents, so my vote is for orange! Love watching this come together!

orange!!!
Beautiful dresser! I would personally go green!! Unless, of course, you are feeling particularly Bucknellian, then orange is the obvious choice. And really, I don’t think you can go wrong!
Hi there? Where do you get your curtains made? I am having the hardest time trying to find someone who can make a valance with a border for our new home.
Thanks!
I’m having them made at the Dallas Home Fabric Center! But if you’re not local, this Etsy shop is a great choice!

orange!!! 🙂
Love it all – and I’m using the Dana Gibson wallpaper in the power room in my new condo but in the persimmon/blue colorway. Good luck! I know it will be beautiful!
Green! 🙂
Definitely green! It will look great with the cobalt and navy, and it will pull the greens from the artwork you have wonderfully. I would also love to see lots of red accessories (maybe a bright red chair in a corner)!
Love it!! Cobalt and Navy are my wedding colors (with a little blush, white, and greenery thrown in).
For the dresser I like the orange, but I think something a little more red/orange (think Essie Geranium). Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Lavender!!!
We found a china cabinet in a similar style for our kitchen. And (inspired by Society Social,) I also wanted to pick a fun color. I went for a bright aqua color with gold accents. It’s such fun. I think you’re going to love how this tuns out! Can’t wait to see!
GREEN! Maybe a bit deeper/less yellow than the inspiration picture though.
I love the wallpaper and curtain fabric! It’s going to look amazing together! I think the dresser would look amazing in green and it will be more versatile in the future.
Just getting caught up with everyone who is participating in the “ORC”…. If you are going with cobalt and white, I think painting the dresser green would be nice. Not sure how lavender would look… Can’t wait to see how everything comes together as the challenge continues!
xo,
Ivy
Definitely the green! Can’t wait to see it!
I really love the green! The picture inspiration of the green dresser you posted is so chic!! I love the gold accents on it. And don’t even get me started on the tassels! #swoon
Green for sure.
I think you should paint it orange! It’s such a bright and inviting color and if I remember correctly you had a green coffee table in New York. So this would be a new color for a new home! Plus it matches so well with cobalt and navy it’s the perfect accent color.
I love what you’ve picked so far Mackenzie! I think the dresser would look incredible painted green, and it would go fabulously with the navy headboard!
And as an aside – I’m pretty sure I have the matching vanity / desk to that dresser! It belonged to my grandparents!
Can’t wait to see how your room progresses!
Katherine
I vote orange! I think it would really pop with the blues and whites you have going on. For some reason I’m really into orange lately. It might be all the inspiration I’m getting from the great outdoors right now since fall is my favorite time of year! Can’t wait to see what you pick.
