We booked this trip forever ago and the time has finally come: we’re heading to Palm Springs this weekend! We’re staying at the Avalon Hotel (on my hotel bucket list!) and definitely want to swing by the Parker as well. Other than that, we really have no plans and I’m just looking forward to soaking up the sunshine, getting to wear this and these, and exploring all the architecture I’ve so long admired via my Instagram feed.

  1. Food. ….Cheekys for breakfast/lunch only. Down the street is Jakes, very good for lunch/dinner and has a cute patio. Tyler’s, very casual great burgers and hot the middle of Palm Springs.

  2. oh snap. yes. you are going to have a great time. i am from LA and grew up going to palm springs for long weekends. its fabulous!
eat at: normas for brunch, yes, and take parker pics, obviously, but i feel like you would LOVE cheekys. two words: bacon flight.
pre-dinner drinks at wangs in the desert. you will love the crowd 🙂 handsome boys enjoying tropical drinks!
dinner – yes workshop for sure. i also highly recommend a newer, kinda hipstery place: the rooster and the pig. incredible asian food.
do NOT miss the date/banana shakes at hadleys orchard. so delicious and creamy, i cant leave palm springs without one!

    have fun!

  3. So fun, you’ll love it! Even though it has been unseasonably cold, it’s supposed to warm up to the 70s this weekend. But bring a jacket!

How long will you be here? Would love to meet up but we head to the high desert Fri-Sun. LMK of if you might be in LA after…or jaunting to Pioneertown at all… 😉

      1. Sadly we’ll be back in LA on Monday. But Friday early evening could work for a quick drink? If not then, I have no doubt that you will fall head over heels for PS and will be back VERY soon!

        Have the best time!!

  4. You are going to have a ball! We just got back, and had an amazing time….
Stayed at the Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage, absolutely gorgeous. A definite must for an awesome dinner is The Edge Steakhouse at the Ritz which is the best view of the whole desert!
Also, Il Corso for Italian, amazing!
Pacifica for wonderful seafood, so delicious!
And, best hole in the wall Mexican is Salsa’s Restaurant….located in a strip mall next to Big Lots, but so authentic and good…great margaritas, too!
    Have a ball Mackenzie….Melanie

  5. Oh my goodness this is so exciting! My family goes to Palm Springs all the time and we actually just got back a couple weeks ago from a New Year’s trip there! There is great shopping at El Paseo along with some seriously good restaurants like the Wolfgang Puck pizzeria. (Highly recommend the smoked salmon pizza!) I’d also definitely recommend stopping by the Saguaro hotel to see all the colors on the side of the building near the pool area! The Viceroy hotel is a great spot for lunch and they have the most amazing truffle fries on their menu! If you want to get an amazing aerial view of Palm Springs the Ritz Carlton on the hill in Rancho Mirage allows you to see everything! I hope these recs are useful! Have the best time!

    1. Oops totally just realized the Avalon and the Viceroy are the same thing. You are going to LOVE the hotel! and while your lounging around by the pool, ordering the truffle fries is a MUST!

      1. Okay sorry just one more thing I thought of! if you’re looking for somewhere to have a yummy dinner, try Mr. Lyons! The decor is pretty cool, the staff is friendly and the beef wellington is to die for!

  6. Mac- Go to FARM for brunch. order the brioche french toast. trust me. Also Workshop Kitchen and Bar is INCREDIBLE for dinner/drinks. one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

  7. oh, too sweet of you to feature my photos! wish i was coming with!

    okay, here are my recos:

    – the saguaro hotel for a colorful pool scene.
    – workshop kitchen + bar for a fancier, super chic and delicious meal. it was a favorite! we went here on our last night and it was a great experience. it’s on open table.
    – norma’s at the parker for breakfast. so good!
    – king’s highway diner at the ace hotel for good comfort food and great stumptown iced coffee.
    – birba for outdoor italian.
    – moorten’s botanical garden for a cool look at cacti, succulents, and palms.
    – palm canyon if you want to get dusty and dirty and experience beautiful views of the desert.
    – Korakia Pensione hotel – we didn’t go here but i am beyond sad that we didn’t!
    – lemonade stand at the parker for unlimited free refills on lemonade. duh.

  8. I haven’t been in 15+ years, so no recommendations from me! But I have a trip scheduled in February, so please post a recap of your favorites if you don’t mind!

  9. Brunch at the Norma’s at the Parker and go to the spa there
    Cabazon outlets
Lunch at Tinto at Saguaro Hotel
    Dinner at Eight4Nine

  10. It’s the best! Our favorites are The Living Desert (cool zoo with beautiful zebras), Shermans Deli, Norma’s at the Parker, Piero’s PizzaVino (we just discovered on our last trip, great food and seems like a local spot), take a boat ride at the Mariott in Palm Desert (and see flamingos – they feed them everyday at 1) – this is also the hotel they went to in saved by the bell! Also totally random is near the Cabazon outlets there’s a cool larger than life dinosaur museum. My husband told me the large dinosaurs have been in lots of movies. Also that’s near in&out burger which is a must if you’re in CA! If you haven’t already had it, the grilled cheese “animal style” (with grilled onions) is good. Have so much fun!

    1. Go to Smoke Tree Ranch-Riding. Breakfast ride amazing. Very old fashioned resort.
Walt Disney had a home there. Old school Palm Springs.
El Gallito-Palm Desert. The most authentic Mexican. In their old home!!
Ritz for drinks-the view. We are going to stay there in a few weeks for the first time.
      El Paseo. Fun Shops.
      Mama Gina’s fun traditional Italian.
      Trio in Palm Springs fun and good food for dinner;
If Sunnylands is open-must do. It is the Annenberg estate. Take the tour-gorgeous home and views.
      Have fun. Chilly at nights
