I’m so excited to start sharing glimpses into our wedding planning process on Design Darling! We’ve been engaged for three weeks now and we’re making slow and steady progress on getting our church and reception venue booked. It’s definitely a little tricky since we’ll be getting married on Nantucket (as so many of you predicted!) and most people are off island for the winter. But I’m excited to get those contracts signed so we can move on to the fun stuff!

It’s a little crazy how much goes into planning one day and I’m feeling pretty thankful that we’re having a longer engagement so I don’t have to rush too many decisions. I’m definitely already noticing that a longer engagement helps when planning a destination wedding! Our big day will be in September 2017 so we have 20 months to enjoy the process and soak up every single second of this exciting time in our lives.

Of course there are a bunch of things I’ll want to keep to myself as we plan our wedding (because it’s such a personal process and because we want to leave a few surprises for our guests!). A few of the many things I’m excited to talk about in the many months to come? Our engagement party, cute ways to ask your bridesmaids, dress options for various wedding-related events, decor and flower inspiration for the reception, registry picks, cool vendors I discover online, and whatever else comes up as we go along! I hope this will serve as inspiration for those of you planning your own weddings, helping your BFF or sister plan hers, or pinning to that secret Pinterest board of yours (#guilty). As always, if there’s anything you’re particularly interested in, I’m all ears!

  1. LOVE the dress in the photos. I called Nordstrom- dress out of stock- Nice gal on the phone said it was
from 2012. If anyone knows how to find something similar, let me know. Your blog is so fun to read- so upbeat-especially with all the snow right now!!!

  2. This is so exciting!! Nantucket weddings, and/or anything Nantucket related really is the best! I am getting married there in June 2016, and while getting all the logistics figured out (you’re totally right, no one is around in the winter!), it is absolutely worth it. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear what venue you pick!!

  3. If you’re looking to do a custom koozie, you should check out CoffeltDesigns on Etsy. My husband and I used their “Pinch Me, They Are Getting Married” design with a lobster for our Newburyport, MA rehearsal dinner. They were a huge hit and darling for a New England coastal wedding.

  4. Congratulations! I’ve been following your blog for a few years now and love it. Nantucket weddings are the best! I got married there June 2015 and planned it in 6 months and totally understand the strain and uniqueness of planning out there. Let me know if you need any vendor help – I enjoyed everyone I worked with! Good luck and enjoy!

  5. So excited to follow along! Just remember to enjoy the planning, no matter how stressful it may get, and that this day is about YOU. & I suppose Will too 😛 Some of my favorite memories involve late nights stamping envelopes + writing placecards together over wine + HGTV reruns 🙂

  6. Congratulations Mackenzie! I am so excited to follow along for your Wedding Wednesday posts as I’m getting married in August 2016. I hope that you enjoy the process. Planning can be stressful, but once those contracts are signed, you’ll really enjoy getting to focus on the details. It’ll be great to read about someone else’s planning process and get some different ideas. I would love if you did a post on bachelorette and shower dresses as I’m having a difficult time finding any that I like!

  7. Congrats! I’m getting married in June down the Cape (tenting the backyard of a family house means so SO MANY details to plan). If you’re taking votes on which posts to do first then I vote dress options for showers & bachelorette, and cool vendors for napkins/koozies/cups 🙂 I could see why that’s not your priority right now though 🙂

Feel free to reach out to me if you need a bride-to-be to vent to. Here’s my unsolicited advice: the women in your life are going to want to help but not know the best way. Do your best to maintain your cool when discussing ideas and making decisions with/without them! Everyone loves you and wants to help even if they’re driving you crazy. (Half wrote that b/c its the advice I need to hear right now)

  8. Hi Mackenzie! Love your blog-I got married on Nantucket a few years ago, so if you need any tips or have any questions feel free to reach out!

  9. I’m so excited to follow along in your wedding planning process! My fiancé and I are having a long engagement as well (got engaged in June 2015 and not marrying until early 2018 most likely) so I’m doing a lot of inspiration gathering until it’s time to start making concrete plans 🙂

  10. Hi Mackenzie! I have been a long-time reader and avid Design Darling customer! I cannot wait to follow along your wedding progress. If you are interested in having your wedding invitations done in calligraphy, I would love for you to check out my IG account – @meretmakes. I also have custom work on my personal account – @meretn.

    xx, Meret

  11. Enjoy this time of wedding planning! It’s so much fun and flies by. Our wedding is 3 months away and we still have quite a lot to do. Don’t stress the small stuff! Best of luck!

  12. I am looking forward to reading about your wedding planning process. I’m getting married myself in April but it’s an elopement, so there’s not as much to share there. Anyway, I’m a little obsessed with anything wedding related right now! Congratulations on your engagement!

  13. Hi! I saw this post and had to comment — I’m getting married on Nantucket this June! Let me know if you want any tips on vendors and such!! (And I totally understand the process of the island shutting down off season haha) ps — I think we have several mutual friends – would love to chat 🙂

  14. I am so excited for these posts! I’m engaged as well and I’m excited to be able to draw some inspiration from you! 🙂
