WHAT’S ON OUR BAR CART

I always love seeing little glimpses into bloggers’ homes, even if it’s just a peek at their bedside table or their shoe shelves. Today I decided to share what’s on our bar cart, which we brought from my fiancé’s apartment in New York and now have to the right of the island in our kitchen. Our bar cart is actually two separate pieces from West Elm, a large mirrored tray and a polished nickel butler stand. (Both pieces are currently on sale if you’re looking to add an affordable bar cart to your space!) Sadly a tiny piece chipped off the back of the tray during our move to Dallas last year but I propped up a piece of art in front of it and I don’t think anyone but me knows the difference!

Since our bar cart is currently in our kitchen, it definitely becomes a hub when we have friends over. We did a big trip to the liquor store when we first got to town to stock up on our favorites as well as at least one bottle of each major type of liquor. I’m sure reasonable people could disagree on true bar cart essentials but I’d suggest having at least one palatable option for gin (I love Hendricks), rum, tequila, vodka, and whiskey. We also have St. Germain and simple syrup for cocktails.

If you’ve ever struggled with how to style a bar cart (been there!), here are a few pointers. We stock ours with just liquor and a few mixers — it doesn’t make sense to clutter your bar cart with champagne and wine just for show since they’ll need to be refrigerated and not just served over ice. I also keep a stack of fun cocktail napkins and a mint julep cup full of striped straws, both of which are fun for entertaining. Then right before our friends come over, I add fresh flowers, arrange empty glasses, and just like that our bar cart is dressed to impress!
