I would happily wear an oxford shirt every single day of the week. Button-down shirts are part of my daily uniform and make me feel instantly put together, even if I’m just wearing jeans and ballet flats. I’d be embarrassed to tell you how many I have hanging in my closet! So it’s no surprise that when I walked into the J.McLaughlin store to pick out my outfit for our blogger event a couple weeks ago, I immediately gravitated toward this striped button-down tunic.

It’s obviously longer than most of the button-down shirts I own and I wasn’t sure how it would look on me given that I’m 5’1″ but I loved the crisp fabric and vertical stripes so I decided to give it a try. And when I spotted this navy leather belt by the checkout counter, I was 100% sold. I might just start belting more of my tops because it’s instantly slimming! I love that it’s a slightly different look than all the other button-down shirts I wear on repeat but still true to my love of preppy staples. I think I was extra happy taking these photos because the outfit is just so me!

By the way, if you’re as short as I am, one of my favorite tricks is to look for cropped skinny jeans that I won’t have to hem (#lazy). This pair is my new favorite!

  1. Yes to belting!! I’m so sick of all these boxy tops in stores that make people look heavier. Slimming, fitted options are so much better! You look great!
