MY FAVORITE PRODUCTS TO USE IN THE SHOWER

I’m working on an editorial calendar for the summer and I’m excited to incorporate more beauty and skincare posts as these have become new areas of interest for me over the past year or so. I’m definitely not an expert but it’s been a lot of trial and error to find the products that work for me and I finally have a ton of favorites (new and old) that I feel are worth sharing. But first we’ll start with the basics: my favorite products to use in the shower!

The first thing I do when I get into the shower is shampoo and condition my hair. If you’ve followed Design Darling for a while now, you know that I chemically straightened my (naturally curly/wavy) hair in college, which left it super damaged and dry. I had a keratin treatment done when I lived in New York but at that point I think my hair was so far gone that it just needed time to grow out and get back to its natural state. (I’d definitely be willing to try it again if anyone has rave reviews!)

After years of diligent trims and no damaging treatments, it’s finally back to square one and I’m on the search for products that will tame my curls and, more importantly, the frizz that comes with them. I tend to switch it up when it comes to shampoo and conditioner depending on things I get sent in the mail and anything that catches my eye at Target or the drugstore. I will say, I love treating myself to Living Proof’s No Frizz shampoo and conditioner because they help smooth my hair (particularly around my face, where it’s most frizzy) and smell legitimately amazing.

The next thing I do is shave… Nothing exciting here, just Dove soap and a Venus razor. Am I the only one who tends not to use shaving cream? Dove soap is one of those smells that immediately takes me back to being a little kid — specifically to the outdoor shower at my Grandy’s house on Nantucket.

Then comes my favorite part of any shower: exfoliating. I was sent this Nivea Touch of Renewal body scrub by a PR company a couple years ago and I fell in love with the scent and how soft it makes my skin. I eventually ran out (even though it’s a pretty big container) and suddenly couldn’t find it anywhere in stores. Thank goodness for Amazon — Will actually orders this in a six-pack so we never run out because he knows how much I love it.

When it comes to taking care of my face, most of that happens after I get out of the shower, but I usually jump start the process by using my Clarisonic in the shower. I’ll put Cetaphil on my face and on the brush head (be sure to get the gentle skin version — I once picked up the normal to oily skin version and found it really drying). If I forget to take my makeup off with one of these Neutrogena wipes before showering, I’ll use this Tata Harper oil cleanser prior to using the Clarisonic. I’m new to the world of face oils (more on that to come) but highly recommend trying them if you haven’t already, especially if you’re trying to find natural alternatives to your go-to products.

Like I said, I’m pretty new to all of this but have started taking much better care of my skin this year and am finally seeing big improvements in my skin. I’d love to hear any of your favorite products to use in the shower as well as any requests for beauty and skincare posts in the weeks to come!
