24 HOURS ON NANTUCKET

We had a whirlwind of a weekend but I wouldn’t change a single minute! On Friday, I got to see one of my dearest friends tie the knot in New Jersey with a beautiful church ceremony and a mother-son salsa dance that basically brought the house down. On Saturday, Will and I woke up bright and early and met my parents and Grandy to take the ferry over to Nantucket. As much as I love our life in Dallas, Will knows how much I love the east coast this time of year and always makes a herculean effort to make it to Nantucket anytime we touch down anywhere on the eastern seaboard. In this case, it was a four hour drive and two hour ferry for a total of 28 hours on the island…! But as my family has always said, the juice is worth the squeeze and I was so happy to get to spend some of the holiday weekend with my parents, Grandy, siblings, aunt, and cousin. Here are a few snaps from a lightning fast trip to our favorite place…

steve madden gold werkit sandals

{These gold gladiator sandals are seeing as much wear as my Jack Rogers this summer. Highly recommend!}

nantucket hydrangeas

{We’ll be hosting a welcome party at my parents’ house before our wedding next summer and my parents planted a bunch of new hydrangea bushes in preparation! Nothing says summer like a sea of blue hydrangeas.}

design darling will and rory

{This cutie was all too happy to make the trip and reunite with his puppy brother!}

saint james red and blue striped shirt

{Two of my summer go-tos: Saint James striped shirts and Soludos wedge espadrilles.}

drinks at galley beach nantucket

{Sunset cocktails at Galley Beach with Amy & co. followed by dinner at Grey Lady and late night charades at the house.}

sconset bluff walk nantucket

{Up early for church in ‘Sconset and of course left a little early to secure blueberry muffins for the bluff walk.}

nantucket bikes

{On Sunday afternoon, we biked to the beach for a quick dip. I’m obsessed with my new bike basket! My bike is from C. Wonder (RIP) but you can find similar styles here, here, and here.}

surfside beach nantucket

{I get lots of emails this time of year asking me for Nantucket recommendations and I always recommend Surfside for a lifeguarded beach with fun but not scary surf, a snack bar, and a public restroom. I’m always happy to answer travel questions so feel free to ask in the comments!}

nantucket surfside beach

{The water was sooo cold at first but felt amazing once I finally got in! My dad always says there’s only one way to do it and you have to just run in but it definitely took me a solid ten minutes of standing on the shore debating whether the cold was worth it. And it always is!}

outdoor shower whale handle

{One last outdoor shower before we had to leave! If Nantucket is my happy place, our outdoor shower is at its epicenter. I’ve been known to take one in the afternoon after the beach and another at night to stare at the stars!}

design darling rory

{Someone did not want to leave…}

tuckernuck pom pom clutch on nantucket

{Before our ferry, we ventured out to Millie’s to say goodbye to my cousin and siblings who are all working there again this summer! This pom pom clutch felt just right for Arnold Palmers and fish tacos.}

nantucket harbor american flag

{A patriotic shot of the harbor! I’ve been asked the easiest way to get to Nantucket and there really is no such thing. If you go the ferry route, you’ll probably sit in traffic on the Cape. If you fly, you’ll inevitably deal with delays due to fog. That said, this trip was the first time I’ve taken the two hour Seastreak ferry out of New Bedford (instead of Hyannis) and it was pretty great to skip all the traffic on Cape Cod — definitely something to consider if you’re traveling from New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, etc.}

 dad on ferry

{My adorable dad on the ferry! I always cry when I say goodbye to my parents so I may or may not have booked flights to visit them in Connecticut next weekend while we were still on the boat.}

polo baseball cap

{Real men wear pink 😉 Fun fact: this is the exact shirt Will was wearing in his profile picture when I swiped right — you can read more about that here. I kept stealing his baseball cap to control my beach hair so it might be time to scoop up one of my own.}

nantucket sunset from ferry

{Watching the sunset from the ferry. Until next time!}
