WEDDING WEDNESDAY: WEDDING GUEST DRESS & WHAT TO WEAR UNDERNEATH

Confession: I had never once tried shapewear before this post. I have girlfriends who swear by it for first dates and special occasions but somehow I never got around to testing it out myself! Then Maidenform offered to send me their endlessly smooth slip to try out for wedding season. I was a little nervous about feeling suffocated but the second I had it on and got dressed, I knew I was onto something good. Suffice it to say this nude slip just became a new wedding season essential on par with the perfect clutch and dancing shoes. The slip definitely sucks everything in and smooths out (and has removable straps and a low back for tricky silhouettes) but I totally forgot I was wearing it after a few minutes — pretty much ideal if you ask me!

I wore it underneath this statement-making striped gown for our friends’ wedding and felt like a million bucks. As we took pictures on my parents’ porch (vaguely reminiscent of prom), I kept saying this was my Scarlett O’Hara moment, haha. If you need a long dress for an upcoming wedding, this one should definitely be a contender. I love the high neck and fitted waist and of course the stripes! People expect to see stripes on long-sleeve tees or oxford shirts but a bold stripe on a long gown is the best kind of surprise.design darling wears a blue and white striped gown from tuckernuck
