Today is my 27th birthday! While I don’t love that I’m officially in my late twenties, I’m beyond excited to see where this next year takes me. 26 was beyond good to me — Will proposed in front of both of our families on Christmas Eve, we continued to settle into life in Dallas and started planning our wedding on Nantucket, and I’ve taken lots of trips back to the east coast to see my family as well as all over the country to celebrate our friends’ weddings. I continue to work hard at a job I love that challenges me each and every day and come home to a fiancé and puppy I adore. Now if only my family would pack up their lives and move to Texas so I could see them every day too… All things considered, though, life is good!

This year we’ll wrap up planning our wedding (and get married three weeks after my 28th birthday), share more decorating progress on our home in Dallas, and continue to plan lots of travel! I’ll be unveiling my next 101 in 1001 list in September with 101 new goals I’m excited to tackle over the next 1001 days — this is a truly exciting time in our lives and there are so many projects I’m eager to take on both personally and professionally.

Every birthday gets me reflecting on the past year and no reflection on my life would be complete without thanking all of you for being such a big part of it. It’s pretty crazy to think that at 27 I’m still writing the very same blog I started in my Bucknell dorm room at 20 — I can hardly remember a time where I didn’t have this creative outlet to chat interiors, outfits, travel, etc. on a daily basis! Certainly my 17-year-old self couldn’t have wrapped her head around writing my blog and running an online boutique full-time and it’s only because of each one of you that that has become possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you to infinity and beyond for showing up here and enabling me to do what I love. I have some fun ideas up my sleeve for the next year but I always love hearing what you want to see more of so always feel free to comment here, snapchat me @designdarling, tweet me @mackenziehoran, or email me using the contact button above if you have a suggestion. Thank you for helping make 26 so great and cheers to the year ahead!

  1. Happy Birthday! Posts like these are why you continue to be one of my favorite bloggers. Your enthusiasm is contagious and I’m so glad it’s been such a good year. I can’t wait to get my new Design Darling goodies. You shipped them so quickly!!!

  2. Hi Mackenzie,
Happy belated birthday. I hope you had a spectacular day.

If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do with the goals you don’t accomplish for this 101? Do you roll them over or forget about them?

    1. Thank you! It depends if I’m still determined to accomplish that goal or would rather focus on a new goal to take its place. For instance, I definitely still want to set foot on a new continent but didn’t have the chance to do so in the past couple years so that will likely be on my next list again. Other goals that I’m less excited about might not make the next list but I’ll always have my old lists to refer back to in case an opportunity comes up to tackle one of them in the future. I hope that helps! 🙂

  3. Happy, happy birthday! I’ll turn 40 in less than 2 weeks and want to do a 101 in 1001 list to celebrate. Cheers to a great year ahead for you!

  4. Happy happy birthday! I hope it’s the best one yet 🙂 I finally ordered the tortoiseshell glasses I’ve had my eye on in your shop this morning and you must be a magician, because they already shipped! Can’t wait to see the new list (they’re always super inspiring and motivate me to get my sh*t together).

  5. Hi Mackenzie,
Just wanted to reach out and say happy birthday! We actually have the same exact birthday (8/9/89)! I think it’s the best birthday to have as the numbers pair so well together. As a fellow New Englander (Massachusetts) I wanted to let you know I enjoy reading your blog every day! Hope you have a great day!
