FIVE CLASSIC ITEMS YOUR CLOSET NEEDS RIGHT NOW

Ever since I lived in this striped tunic this summer, I’ve been keeping an eye out for more button-down tunics to add to my closet. Banana Republic came through with this crisp white button-down tunic that’s a little bit oversized but pairs nicely with skinny jeans and leg-lengthening booties or heels. The tunic length originally wasn’t a style I thought I could pull off but, trust me, if someone who’s 5’1” can make it work, you can too! Button-down tunics are officially a new wardrobe classic for me. I dressed it up a little here but it’s also perfect for layering over a pair of leggings for an easy weekend look.

Speaking of classic items you need in your closet, here are four more for you:

1. Skinny jeans. Despite fashion magazines telling us they’re on their way out and it’s all about a looser fit and more rigid feel, I’m not giving up my beloved skinny jeans anytime soon. In fact, I just ordered this pair in both blue and white — the fit makes them worth every penny.
2. Pearl earrings (or bracelet, or necklace). This jewelry classic is making a major comeback at many of my favorite retailers this season. I picked up these J.Crew sparklers during the holidays and now have my eye on this dainty everyday necklace.
3. A structured mini bag. I’m majorly coveting a Mark Cross box bag, but it took less convincing to invest in this Sophie Hulme crossbody bag. I love the simple shape and statement hardware — it’s my go-to for girls’ night out when I don’t want to think about lugging around a tote.
4. The perfect pointed toe pumps. Will generously gave me this pair for Christmas and I have to say, they’re the most comfortable, flattering heels I’ve ever worn. To get the look for less, try these or these.
