After four months of wearing nothing but denim, I was itching to add something a little different to my winter wardrobe. I’ll admit I didn’t have particularly high hopes for these (faux) suede leggings — I assumed I’d try them on and promptly send them back.
But! It was love at first sight. First, the quality is great for the price. I love this pricier pair from J.Crew but I couldn’t justify the investment for my first pair of non-denim, non-yoga leggings. But for under $100, you’d never know these weren’t the real deal. Second, they actually fit. I’ve tried on a few pairs of suede pants before and the fit was just all wrong (saggy at the waist, tight in the legs, baggy in the calves). I sized down in this pair and think they’re actually pretty flattering on. And third, they’re warmer than jeans! Maybe I’m just being a baby after two years in Texas but any pair of pants that can stand up to winter in New England is welcome in my closet.
A word on styling… I’m not usually one to wear leggings without a longer top (unless I’m working out) and I’d say the same goes for this suede pair. I tried them on with more cropped shirts and sweaters but felt most comfortable in my go-to knit oxford shirt (size up as they tend to shrink in the wash). I also recommend keeping the rest of your outfit super classic — think an homage to the equestrian, not a skin-tight suede moment complete with over-the-knee boots. 😉
