My two favorite purchases from the Shopbop sale were this navy Smythe blazer and this structured Tory Burch satchel. I couldn’t wait to wear them and conveniently they’re still up to 25% off through tomorrow night! Don’t forget to enter code GOBIG17 at checkout — you can shop more of my picks right here.

I’ve had this Smythe blazer in my Shopbop favorites for months but had never taken the plunge because of the price tag. But for 25% off, I couldn’t resist, even if I secretly hoped I’d hate it so I’d be able to return it! But once I had it on, I knew I wouldn’t be sending it back. It’s truly one of the most beautifully constructed pieces of clothing I own. The structured shoulders, the nipped in waist, the interesting cut in the back… I compared the fit to a couple other navy blazers I own and honestly, I’m not sure I’ll ever want to wear them again! I suppose that’s the definition of a good investment piece. If you’re considering ordering, I recommend going up a size — here I’m wearing the size 4 and it fits like a glove.

Next up is this top handle satchel. Admittedly I needed another Tory Burch bag like I need a hole in the head, but there’s something super sophisticated about the shape and structure of this one. It’s unfortunately too small to fit my laptop but I think it’s a lovely ladylike style that I can see myself toting for years to come.

  1. Love the blazer on you. I just got mine in the mail today in army and on the fence… i ordered a 4 but wordering if I should have done a 2. Did you ever try this on in a 2 to know the 4 fit better? How is the arm length on you? It is very long on me and wondering if it can be tailored shorter.

    1. Hi Megan! Just looked it up on Shopbop and LOVE the army color you ordered. I never tried on the size 2 as it was sold out in the sale so I just decided to go for the 4. The 4 is definitely the right size as the 2 would have been too tight on me. The sleeves are a little long on me but I almost always scrunch up the sleeves when I wear a blazer so I don’t mind it, but I’ve had sleeves shortened on jackets before so I’m sure that would help if it’s really bugging you!

  2. I love both of these pieces so much! I completely agree that the best use of the Shopbop sale is to get a classic piece you’ve been eyeing for a while. I got a pair of Loeffler Randall shoes I’ve wanted forever and I’ll be sitting next to the mailbox until they come!

  3. Hi Mackenzie! Thank you so much for posting the investment pieces and the awesome dupes to get the look for less! I think this is a great idea and really appreciate when you do posts like this. I still have some old navy buys that you posted on your blog in the past few years and the charming charlie navy blue strapless romper that I’ve worn to death since you posted it here 2 years ago I think. Love that you give readers options! Hope to be able to get more of the investment pieces when I (finally) finish my PhD and get a real income haha

    1. Ali, thank you so much for this comment — you made my day! I will definitely continue to post both investment pieces and ways to get the look for less. Congratulations on earning your PhD — so impressed!!!

  4. Wondering how you fee about accumulating clothes. I think everyone has pretty much heard about the capsule wardrobe, and while it definitely is not for everyone, I think some aspects of it are smart. Buying fewer, well made clothes and trying to be conscious of what fits you the best. How do you feel about this? I know you focus on quality but then when I hear you have several other navy blazers it just makes me think.

    1. Investing in higher quality items I’ll have for longer is definitely something I’m focused on as I get older but that wasn’t always possible in my early twenties. And I think it’s nice that I had worn two navy blazers for the past five years — it shows me how much use I’ll get out of one that’s more of an investment!

  5. The Duchess of Cambridge has been wearing that Smythe blazer for years. Nice to have an IRL opinion on it!

  6. Those gold buttons are the perfect touch! I couldn’t agree more about the bag, too. I saw it in store, and it stopped me in my tracks – such a classic! Happy Friday!
