I was tempted to title this post our living room reveal because I believe this is the first you’re seeing of our house since we first moved in! But there are still a few little things I want to change and so I’d consider this more of a sneak peek. I get asked a lot about my favorite places to shop for home decor and our living room really runs the gamut in terms of affordable finds paired with investment pieces.
For instance, we tested about a dozen sofas before splurging on our Pottery Barn sectional (which is currently split in two to fit in this small space — so each side has only one armrest and the corner piece is in the basement waiting for a bigger home!). But the armchairs were a Joss & Main find and the white tables were under $100 on Wayfair. I’m sure we’ll want to upgrade certain pieces over time, but for now I’m really happy with the deals we’ve scored and the pieces we’ve saved up for.
Furniture aside, one of my favorite home decor sources will always be Etsy. I’m pretty sure all but two of the throw pillows in our home came from various Etsy shops! I just love that you can find anything you’re looking for in terms of color, pattern, size, and shape and I’ve always had great luck ordering custom pillows in designer fabrics. That said, I know from experience that sourcing throw pillows can be a little overwhelming when you don’t quite know what you’re looking for, so below I’m sharing where I found all the throw pillows for our living room (some of which I’ve had since my first apartment in New York!).
My favorite throw pillows in our living room come from an Etsy shop called Arianna Belle. This David Hicks La Fiorentina pattern is a classic for a reason — I still love them as much as the day I purchased them more than four years ago! This Etsy shop is my go-to source for pillows made in designer fabrics. We also have a pair of pillows in Quadrille’s Conga Line leopard print and I would love to find a home for these Quadrille Kazak pillows too.
Once we finally figured out the furniture arrangement for this room, I knew I needed new pillows to make it look more cohesive from one side of the front door to the other. The navy sofas, La Fiorentina pillows, and Slim Aarons print add color to the left side, but the two beige armchairs weren’t doing much on the other side of the room. So I ordered these navy pillows with white grosgrain trim from Studio Tulla and I love the way they bring the navy from the sofas to the other half of the space. They’re a simple design but beautiful quality — I’m trying to convince my mom to order four of them as we redecorate their Nantucket house this summer!
And lastly, a story about this chaise longue. This piece was the cornerstone of my family’s living room growing up and I was so thrilled when they let me have it when we moved to Dallas. I then hemmed and hawed over how to reupholster it and let it sit in our garage for two years before we moved back to Connecticut. Then this year I walked into my parents’ new living room and saw two chairs upholstered in bright hydrangea blue with white trim at the bottom and knew I was going to totally steal the look for the chaise. Et voilà! I’m in love with how it turned out and decided to adorn it with a fabulous green bolster with Greek key trim to take the look to the next level. I’ve ordered from Southern Shades before (a Dana Gibson pattern that I also love) and have never been disappointed.
Any Etsy shops you love for throw pillows or home decor? I’m always looking to add new favorites to my list!
