Our beach house decorating project is coming along slowly but surely! We got a ton of projects out of the way before Grandy’s surprise party a few weeks ago and now we’re moving to the exterior of the house and a few remaining details inside. I can’t wait to share more before and afters with you in the coming weeks as it all comes together!
Today I’m sharing the plans for redecorating the sitting room that’s right off the foyer of my family’s house. The walls used to be bright red but I’ve since painted them Behr’s Charter Blue, a chambray-esque color that’s much more appropriate for the blue and white beachy vibe of the rest of the house. We’re also partnering with Overstock to furnish this small space — I can’t wait to show you how many pieces my mom and I were able to pick out for $2,700!
The first piece we picked out was this super chic roll arm sofa in crisp white. It’s a traditional shape that will never go out of style and the proportions are just right for this tiny room. We paired it with an upholstered ottoman instead of a true coffee table and it really sets the tone for a house where you can kick your feet up and relax. The ottoman is a little more off white than the sofa but I ultimately decided to go with a lighter color vs. this navy option that I also loved just to keep things light and bright with the blue walls.
We knew we’d want something neutral to lighten up the newly stained dark wood floors and my feeling is a home can never have too many jute rugs. This jute rug is such a bargain I’m thinking of ordering one for our house in Greenwich — it’s definitely an awesome deal whether you’re furnishing your dorm room, a first apartment, or a larger home.
If you’ve seen any of my past home tours, you’ve probably realized that I love all white furniture so that was a natural choice for the bookshelf and two end tables. I love the way the painted wood pops against the pretty blue walls! The X pattern on the bookshelf also lends a little visual interest to a plain rectangular room and again, you seriously can’t beat the price. The end tables also come with woven baskets, making them a great choice for anything from a home office to a playroom.
Last but not least, the accessories! I fell in love with this rope mirror and was so happy when I measured and realized it had the perfect dimensions for above the new sofa. It reflects the light (and all the hydrangeas!) from outside and really brightens up this small space. The gourd lamps are such a design classic and I just love those acrylic finials. And finally, we all know I can’t resist a good stripe, so when my mom suggested these striped throw pillows, I didn’t have to think twice.
Stay tuned for pictures of how the room looks now — I’m obsessed!
