My bestie Ali (whom I met in Dallas and who’s been living with us on Nantucket this summer!) recently tackled a room-by-room clean-out of her entire house and she’s giving me major inspiration to do the same this fall when we get back from our honeymoon. She says it’s incredible to walk into her closet and only see items she wants to wear, because everything fits and everything suits her style.
In preparation for this fall clean-out, I’ve been paying closer attention to the items in my own closet that get the most wear and trying to add pieces that I know I’ll reach for season after season. Unsurprisingly, I almost always reach for clothing in my beloved navy blue (a color that I think suits my red hair/fair complexion but also that looks good on literally everyone!) and I hardly ever wear prints outside of gingham or stripes. In fact it’s been a particularly gingham-filled summer for me, peaking with this gingham party dress I wore for my bridal shower in July (give me allll the Milly gingham!). And if you couldn’t justify the price tag on this gingham bow top I wore earlier in the summer, you need to know about this gingham one-shoulder ruffle top out right now from J.Crew. I’ve been getting so much wear out of the former that I couldn’t resist adding the latter to this ever-expanding gingham collection I’ve got going on. This is one pattern I know I’ll never need to remove from my closet because it’s classic, preppy, and just always makes me feels like myself.
