Will and I are in major honeymoon packing mode over here and I’ve basically become an online stalker of anything titled “safari packing list” (…sometimes I find myself on page 12 of Google search results and have to reel myself in). We leave on Thursday so if you have any packing tips to share before then, both of us are all ears! I told myself I’d do all our safari wardrobe shopping right after our wedding and yet I found myself placing several orders with overnight shipping as recently as yesterday. Nothing like a firm deadline to help me get my act together! 😉

One thing we know we’re bringing with us is a set of workout clothes, especially for all the walking we plan on doing during our three days in Cape Town. I’ve long been a fan of Zella tops and leggings (available exclusively at Nordstrom) and recently ordered a few of their items for Will when he asked me to help him pick out a new pair of sneakers. We haven’t been the best about getting into a workout routine together since we moved to Connecticut (I usually work out in the afternoons with my mom when she gets out of work) but we loved working out with a trainer together in Dallas and are hoping to get back into the swing of things when we get back from Africa. And dare I say I might even commit to taking a tennis lesson or two? Will played in college and is intimidatingly good but I know he’d make a very patient instructor so we’ll see. And we all know there’s no better motivator than a cute new workout outfit! Ali snapped these photos on Nantucket a few days before our wedding and looking at them takes me right back to the last minute jitters before our big day. While I’ll forever treasure our engagement pictures and am counting down the seconds until we see our wedding photos, there’s something fun about seeing pictures of us in more everyday weekend attire!

  1. Congratulations Mackenzie! South Africa is the best- enjoy every second of your honeymoon! If you’re looking for some fitness while you’re there, you two should hike up Table Mountain! My fiancée and I did it during our time in Cape Town. It’s such a good workout, the views are amazing, and you will feel so accomplished at the end of it! We really earned our “sundowners” in Camps Bay that night! Xoxox

  2. Pack candy and/or sharpened pencils to hand out to kids. Our car got swarmed in every town we drove through in Kenya.

  3. As you pack for your honeymoon, we are planning ours! We are making a stop in Positano and having hard time deciding where to stay.

Did you review your hotel when you went? I saw one post about it but want to read more!

    Good luck with packing! 🙂

    1. Congratulations!!! Positano will be the dreamiest place for your honeymoon. I linked our hotel in this post:

We thought it was a great value considering the location and the views (and would 100% stay there again!) but if money were no object I would stay at Le Sirenuse. If that’s not in the cards, you can go for a cocktail at sunset — the setting is unlike any other! Have the best trip!

    2. Go to Da Vincenzo for dinner! Family friends own it and it’s delicious- from what I remember- I was in high school when I went ,haha. BUT my parents have been going each summer to Positano for a month and have known the family since my mom was a nanny in the 70’s!

  4. I’m American but lived in South Africa and went on safari in many countries (ZA, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania). Most camps and lodges will do your laundry for you so no need to overpack. And unless you are doing walking safaris, your “safari” clothes don’t really get dirty as you barely get out of the vehicle, so you really don’t need too much of any one thing, just plenty of layers. Including my email below in case you still need any last-minute Cape Town recs, I spent quite a bit of time there!

  5. Hi Mackenzie! So excited for your upcoming honeymoon!! My sister, Bridgette, is good friends with Amy, and Bridgette and her husband went to South Africa two years ago. She wrote a SA packing list (http://letloveguideus.com/?p=4559), as well as shared all about their awesome experiences in Cape Town (http://letloveguideus.com/?p=4603) and on their safari/game reserve (http://letloveguideus.com/?p=4641). Bridgette’s posts should be really helpful and informative!! You’re in for a great trip, and have the best honeymoon ever!
