OUR LIVING ROOM REVEAL

I’m so excited to share photos of our living room today! It’s come a long way since I last posted progress photos and I’m so happy with the changes we’ve made. I’m going to write a little about each of the decorating decisions we made along the way, but if you don’t see something linked beneath a given photo, scroll to the end of the post where I’ll include a source list for everything I can think of and add to it if you guys have any additional questions in the comments. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Hopefully these two photos give you a sense of the layout of the room. Our sectional separates the living room from the kitchen on one side and creates a hallway from the kitchen to the dining room and foyer on the other. Opposite the sectional there’s a bright little nook where we put the reupholstered chaise longue from my childhood home, which is now one of Rory’s favorite perches and my preferred spot for needlepointing under the floor lamp! My extremely handy parents hemmed and hung these curtains on acrylic curtain rods and I love that the cotton voile material gives us a little privacy without sacrificing any natural light.

The new striped rug instantly transformed the room and made things so much lighter and brighter in here. I love that the stripes complement all the different shades of blue in the room. The media console is an IKEA TV unit that I’d love to upgrade eventually (one of these credenzas is my absolute dream) but it’s served us well and fits perfectly in the space so it stays for now. The blue and white lamps were a gift from Will’s mom that she customized with a thick acrylic base and the silver lantern was a wedding gift that we decided to enjoy indoors until we get around to decorating our outdoor space. And one of you suggested that we covered the TV wires with this cable concealer kit and it makes me so happy to have them hidden… it’s the little things. ??

One of the big differences since my last photos of this room is the new rattan side cart to the right of the sectional. It’s the perfect dimensions for the space and I love that the woven texture offers a little contrast to our acrylic coffee table. I usually keep a set of needlepoint coasters on the top next to the oversized Diptyque and bowl of ginger jar matches but I’m toying with the idea of making my own now that I’m getting slightly more confident in my abilities! I also ordered a navy lampshade for the white lamp and love that it adds a little color to the far wall.

Several of my beloved Slim Aarons prints found a home in our living room and I love getting to look at them every single day. The two large prints hanging behind the sectional are Eden-Roc Pool (pictured in second photo from the top) and Speedboat Landing, while the two square prints hanging above the side table are Family Pool and Boating in Antigua.

The faux fiddle leaf fig tree is one of my very favorite additions to the room. It gives us some much-needed color and height without the risk of killing it after a few months. I was a skeptic on faux plants but this one is really high quality and you’d hardly know the difference without touching it so consider me a convert. We put ours in this basket and love the entire look. The tennis watercolor is a Kate Schelter piece that I gave to Will several birthdays ago and keep moving from room to room because I seem to love it everywhere. I had matching cushions made for the chaise longue but then I received this gorgeous appliqué monogram pillow that’s exactly the same size so you know how it goes… if it isn’t moving, monogram it. And a dear friend gave us the cashmere throw as a wedding gift and it is hands down the most luxurious thing I’ve ever owned.

I’m always fussing with coffee table styling and recently brought this woven tray down from my office to break up all the books. I may eventually want something in lacquer or leather since I was loving this to corral office supplies on my desktop.

I ordered a couple new pillows for the sectional in addition to the navy and white grosgrain pillows we already owned and I love the way they turned out. The Greek key pillow is super classic and I’m not even sure how to describe the blue and white printed pillow, but I was instantly drawn to it for some reason so that’s good enough for me!
