FRIDAY Q&A: BUYING NICE FURNITURE WHILE RENTING, HOW I PREPARED MYSELF FOR PREGNANCY, HOW MY BLOG WILL CHANGE ONCE I BECOME A MOM, AND MORE

Happy Friday! I had such a nice week getting to connect with so many of you between my first trimester recap and this post about losing a house and the waiting game that often precedes major life changes. And I’m super excited to share the baby’s sex with you next week! So far it seems like your guesses are completely split between boy and girl… stay tuned!

design darling friday q&a

1. What are your thoughts on decorating and investing in nice furniture while renting?

I’ve always been able to find a new home for every nice piece of furniture or art I’ve ever invested in so I’m all for it! I don’t think a temporary home has to mean temporary belongings. Obviously I wouldn’t splurge on wallpaper or a custom cut rug you can’t take with you to your next address, but you’ll never regret buying a beautiful dresser or bedside tables.

2. Would love to hear about your favorite transitional pieces. NYC weather has been so strange lately!

This time of year I don’t go anywhere without a light jacket like this or this (or this if rain is in the forecast). And I’ve been living in lightweight sweaters like this and this!

3. Were you trying to get pregnant for a while?

I shared in this post that I got pregnant a couple months after we started trying so we were very fortunate that it happened quickly for us this time around. I know that may not always be the case and my heart goes out to any and every woman struggling to have a baby.

4. Did you take any specific steps to prepare yourself for trying to get pregnant?

I had an appointment with my OB-GYN a few months before we started trying and started taking prenatal vitamins per her recommendation but that was really it. I have friends who swear by acupuncture or certain tracking apps but I’m afraid I’m not the best person to ask when it comes to that.

5. With Will traveling so much for work, how do you maintain a healthy / loving relationship?

It’s something I’ve gotten used to over the years but of course spending time apart can take a toll, especially since I got pregnant and have been getting sick so often. We get through work trips with phone calls and texts and then try to make up for lost time on weekends. He’s also been able to work from home on Fridays for the past few months and we are both unbelievably grateful for that extra time together, even if it’s spent at separate desks in our home office!

6. Looking for recommendations on a good pair of white jeans!

These are hands-down my favorite white jeans — ankle length, completely opaque, and super soft. I think I own at least three pairs!

7. I’m also wearing a Sarah Seven dress for my wedding! What are some bridal shower dresses you suggest?

Congratulations! I love so many of Sarah Seven’s gowns. I’m constantly adding new white dresses to the bridal section on my shop page — right now I’m loving this, this, and this.

8. Are you a natural redhead? Have you ever dyed your hair?

Yes, this is my natural color and no, I’ve never dyed it. I’ve done all kinds of relaxing and straightening treatments over the years to try to calm the curls and frizz but my hair color is one thing I would never change!

9. How do you think your blog change once you become a mom?

That’s a great question! I definitely see myself sharing some of our family life here as my blog has been a place for me to document all kinds of milestones over the past nearly ten years. But I also want to be sensitive to the readers who come here for outfit ideas and room reveals and might not be interested in all things baby. So I’m guessing I will start to dedicate maybe one post a week to talking about pregnancy/baby/motherhood and see how you guys respond? So far the response to our pregnancy announcement and my first trimester recap has exceeded my expectations, so if that continues to be the case, I’m sure I’ll want to talk about it more as it will certainly be top of mind in my offline life!
