A FUN LITTLE QUESTIONNAIRE

I used to have a feature on my blog called So Tell Me About Yourself where I would answer a few questions and then have readers copy and paste the questions and add their answers in the comments. It was a fun way for me to get to know you guys and I thought it’d be a welcome way to look on the bright side right now. Here we go!

What you’re reading right now: Listening to the Audible version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We have a little over three hours left and we’re savoring every chapter!

A silver lining of staying at home: My husband getting so much extra time with Teddy and Zoom calls with all my cousins!

Someone you’re excited to see after being quarantined: My sister Reilly and my Grandy.

Your first meal post-quarantine: Chinese food. Our two go-to spots in town are temporarily closed and I’ve been craving it badly!

Something you’ll never again take for granted: Birthday parties, coffee shops, hugging my friends, girls’ nights, grocery stores, nail salons, the ability to travel.

Now copy and paste the below and add your answers in the comments! I can’t wait to read. xx

  1. What you’re reading right now: Waiting for Snow in Havana by Carlos Eire
My dad was born in Havana and lived there until he was 10. This book was actually assigned reading in my AP English Language class in high school and I didn’t appreciate it so much at the time, but I grew up in Miami and many people I grew up with were also the children of Cuban immigrants. Now that I’m living in North Carolina and missing my parents a lot, I’m revisiting this book to feel a little bit closer to them.

Your first meal after quarantine: Moules-frites and a really decadent chocolate dessert.

Something you’ll never again take for granted: The freedom to travel (especially to visit with loved ones!) as well as the freedom of access to goods and services.

  43. What you’re reading right now: First Aid for the USMLE Step 1, 2019 Edition – fully a joke! I’m a medical student studying for my first board exam, which has had the date pushed back three times due to self isolation. But quarantine has encouraged me to step outside the study zone and my goal for the next year is to give myself time to read non-academic texts!

A silver lining of quarantine: Spending four days a week with my boyfriend after balancing two really busy schedules. It would be seven but he’s an ICU nurse so three are spent at the hospital. The four days we do have are spent slowing down, cooking and getting outside (at a safe distance)!

A silver lining of quarantine: Getting to enjoy our cute, cozy home more than usual. I’m a “go go go” person and usually even weekends with nothing to do are rare. I’ve always loved our house (a 1945 bungalow, which we purchased a little over two years ago), but this has made me love it even more!

Someone you’re excited to see after quarantine: our family! We had to cancel a trip with my parents (and they live 4 hours away), and we have a five month old nephew I’m dying to see.

Your first meal after quarantine: A progressive dinner at our favorite places in town

Something you’ll never again take for granted: Being able to PLAN… work events, trips, coffee dates with friends — all of it! I miss being able to look past the next week.

    1. Your comment on the ability to plan totally resonates with me! It’s disorienting to look at my calendar and see entire months completely blank except for birthdays. Hope you’re able to see your sweet nephew soon. xx

      1. My boyfriend and I keep a calendar in our kitchen for all our social stuff, just so I’m not constantly reminding him about an upcoming party or brunch plans, and no one comes home expecting a cozy night together and then gets cranky when we learn the other person is at guys/girls night. Our work hours are really long, but every weekend of that calendar was always packed with double dates, birthdays, visits to see our nieces, plans for hikes or beach days, weekend trips with college friends.

In March, crossing out my brothers surprise party, and his brothers moving home from Hong Kong, the birthday of one friend and the wedding of another, our plans for our five year anniversary, felt hugely symbolic and really sad.

At one point I took a sharpie and wrote NOOOOOTHING EVERRRR AGAIN! over the month of March. It made us laugh for the rest of the month.

It’s so hard not to have set dates and set plans to look forward too. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Well all be hugging our loved ones again soon. Stay strong, friends. Xx

Your first meal after quarantine: This one doesn’t concern me as much—we’re in Austin and ordering takeout from a different local restaurant every week.
