I don’t know about you, but my decorating projects list is about as long as it’s ever been (you can see most of what’s on it here — time to cross off #55!) and I’m feeling motivated to tackle as much as I can before what will surely be lots of extra time at home during the winter months. (I’d love to hear what updates you’re making around your home as we head into cooler weather!) One of the things on my list was to order a custom rug for our living room. It’s hard to tell in photos, but this room is a bit tricky because it’s long and narrow with one standard doorway off the foyer and three wide doorways leading into the playroom on one side and the dining room on the other. So while I loved the rug we had in here previously, it was just a touch too short for the sofa and tables on the wall opposite the fireplace and I knew I’d ultimately need to order something in a custom size if I wanted it to be just right. Thankfully we have plenty of other places for the previous rug and the new one is even better in person than I’d hoped!

We’ve owned and loved several Dash & Albert rugs over the years and I totally did a happy dance when I realized they have custom rugs on their site that you can order in increments down to the inch (lots of websites let you order by the foot, but because of the doorways on either side of the furniture I really needed to be precise in here!). I landed on this indoor/outdoor rug with a diamond pattern and I love the rich texture it adds to the space. The color is darker than the rug we had in here which took some getting used to, but I actually love how it plays off the color of our floors. I should also mention that we’re waiting on a proper ottoman (this one upholstered in this fabric if you’re curious!) that will replace the two woven X benches and I can’t wait to see all the pattern-on-pattern goodness! Just trying to share updates along the way even if we haven’t achieved the full vision yet. 🙂

  1. The rug looks great. I like the darker color, it adds a bit of warmth. You asked about home projects…I currently have banging happening overhead as the upstairs hall bathroom gets renovated. It was original to my 1972 colonial…picture yellow tub, yellow toilet and yellow tile up the wall. Can’t wait for the finished product with lots of white. Up next, the master bath and then hopefully the kitchen in the spring. I am loving your reno updates for inspiration.

    1. Ahhh that’s so exciting! We have a bathroom reno in our future as well but ours is very 1980s — think mauve tile and mixed metals with shiny gold faucets. We haven’t decided on our next proper renovation project but that’s a top contender for sure!

  2. #stayathomefall I got a pile of 5 Sferra Celine throws in toning colors so we can use our patio for as long as possible and then use indoors too – love that they are cotton and the herringbone weave.
