Happy Friday, friends. We survived another week of winter at home! This was a better week than last and graced us with snow, a Zoom birthday party, a bathroom demolition, and early forward progress on our backyard project. I hope you all had a good one too! 1. Do you see this as your forever home?
We certainly see ourselves here for multiple years to come, but “forever” feels like a very hard thing to predict, especially at the end of a most unpredictable year! We have zero plans to move in the next several years and beyond that, I guess I’d just say it would have to be a very special property or project in order for us to consider leaving this home we’re so enjoying making our own!
2. Would you change anything about your wedding?
I really wouldn’t! Even the little hiccups have made for funny stories several years later and it was just the most joyous, heartwarming day to be surrounded by so many people I love from various chapters of my life. I know I would have felt that way wherever and however we got married, but I definitely look back with no regrets!
3. Tips for organizing/hiding pump parts? My kitchen counter is overtaken by plastic pieces!
If there’s a miracle solution to this conundrum, I’ve certainly yet to find it! We have this drying rack that does its best to corral all the pieces but I’d be lying if I said I was excited to have to look at that whole scenario again in a few months. ?
4. How do you balance dream house finds while being family-friendly?
At this point, it’s not a dream find for me unless it also checks the box of being family-friendly. For instance, I started resenting the lucite coffee table I’d had and loved for years once it became a hazard with Teddy on the move, so we’re waiting on this leather ottoman that will provide a cushier landing to slips and trips and will wear well over time. I’m sure one day I’ll be able to pull the lucite coffee table out of the basement again, but for now it’s just not worth it! Similarly, I had my heart set on the trellis wallpaper we hung in our playroom, but we installed beadboard on the bottom half of the walls so they would stand up to crayons and dirty hands that can’t reach the wallpapered top half. I guess it’s something I’m learning as I go, but there are definitely things I had my eye on years ago that I’d put on the back burner for now!
5. What has been your favorite stage with Teddy so far? I have a newborn and it’s tough!
I’m sorry you’re having a tough go! Those newborn days are such a rollercoaster — if it’s any consolation, this post or this one will at least make you feel like you’re not the only one! For me, things started looking up once the majority of my own postpartum recovery was behind me. Now I’m inclined to say I love every month just a little more than the one before it, but I’m realizing that there are sweet spots at every age and for every last, there’s a wonderful new phase that’s about to begin. I look back longingly at the itty bitty baby days where Teddy would fall asleep in my arms, but I also couldn’t have known then how much I would love seeing him run and explore now at 16 months!
6. How do you keep your white couch white with dogs/kids? Mine is always dirty!
We have a white slipcovered sofa in our playroom that’s dirty 99% of the time. It looks brand new when we take off the slipcover, bleach, wash, and air dry it, but that’s definitely not something I’m tackling on a routine basis at this point. ?
7. Did you use anything to help prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?
I think stretch marks are mostly genetic, but this pregnancy I’ve been using this oil and I like the smell enough to stick with it as part of my nightly routine!
8. Have you used an interior designer for parts of your home renovation?
No, I enjoy doing the design and decorating myself! We hired an architect to draw up plans at the beginning of our kitchen/mudroom/loft renovation and since then we’ve just worked with a contractor to execute the construction.
9. Where do you see your blog content going with this new season of your life and getting older?
More decorating/renovating content, more reflections on family and motherhood, more close-to-home recommendations for both Fairfield County and Nantucket, and continuing to cross goals off my 101 in 1001 list. In fact, if you look at my current 101 in 1001 list, it will give you a pretty good idea of how I hope to spend the next few years!
