OUR HOME OFFICE REVEAL

I’m excited to share photos of our home office with you today! I’ve shared sneak peeks of the space here and here, but this is where my husband Will has worked every day since March of last year and it’s been such a silver lining of the pandemic that he’s no longer commuting into the city every day. We really didn’t buy many new pieces for this room but it happened to be one of the first rooms that we wallpapered after we moved in (this grasscloth has incredible texture — I loved it so much we did the backs of the bookshelves as well!) and I’m really glad it came together quickly as it’s served as a background on many, many Zoom calls in the past year and a half. The floor-t0-ceiling bookshelves were one of the details we loved most about the house when we first walked through and Will’s ever-growing collection fills them perfectly! I’ll share a little before and after at the end of the post. 🙂

Masculine, vintage meets updated and functional

Longtime readers may remember this leather chesterfield sofa from Will’s apartment that I helped redecorate seven years back (it’s actually so fun to see how many pieces from that apartment we still have and love today!). It’s honestly pretty beat up at this point, but it’s also one of those pieces that just gets comfier the older it is so I don’t think we’ll be parting with it anytime soon. We recovered the leather cushions in this camel tattersal since those were in the worst shape and I like that it lightens things up a bit. The wingback chair was one of several vintage pieces Will already owned when we met and we had it reupholstered in a brown mohair with brass nailheads. The Chesterfield is a large sofa and the wingback chair is a bit smaller! We tried to optimize seating in a relatively small space.

I had originally planned to make a white desk work in here, but I’m glad we ultimately went with a wood piece for a more masculine vibe (and the white desk wound up in my brother Camden’s apartment in the city so it all worked out!). We found this desk for $150 at Remix Market in Stamford and it was the perfect fit for this wall. The leather desk chair is from Amazon (we added this affordable jute rug so it wouldn’t scratch the floors), the brass lamps are Visual Comfort, and the prints are photos from our honeymoon safari in burl wood frames (we sell the prints here, here, here, and here and are always happy to help select alternative frames!). We love surrounding ourselves with the memories from our African safari without the photos overtaking the design of this room. We wanted the artwork to enhance the feel of the room while keeping the focus on the bookshelves.

More vintage art pieces (Vanity Fair prints, Texas bluebonnet oil paintings, a watercolor by my grandfather) are hung on the walls and tucked into the bookshelves, which already had these brass swing arm sconces when we moved in (these are super similar for a great price!). It’s a bookshelf I’ll probably always be rearranging and tinkering with (especially as a new book seems to arrive every other day around here…) but it’s a pretty thing to see when you walk in our front door and peek into the office! To complete the gallery wall above the Chesterfield couch are three mounted antlers on wood carved bases that surround a vintage needlepoint crest in a wooden frame in the same shape as the crest. All this masculine artwork was Will’s prior to our marriage.

And because you know I live for a good before and after, here are two photos taken from the same spot, one from the day we moved in and the next a shot of the room in its current state!
