REUPHOLSTERING THE CHAIR IN OUR FAMILY ROOM

I love a good reupholstery project and this one has been on my list (literally!) for years. When my parents moved in with us, we brought this upholstered armchair and ottoman from my childhood home into our family room as it’s such a cozy spot to curl up with a needlepoint project or watch TV as a family. Several years earlier, my mom had reupholstered it from its original ivory stripe to a very bold orange and blue ginger jar print (longtime readers might remember the blue wallpaper version from our townhouse in Dallas!) that we both tired of over time, so I set out to find a more classic fabric that would better stand the test of time.

When Mark D. Sikes used this Brunschwig & Fils Colmar stripe in his villa at the Colony Hotel, I knew I’d found a winner! I went with the same French blue colorway and my mom and I both love the way it turned out. Reupholstered pieces are often the most inquired about items in our home and I always tell people you can find high quality chairs, sofas, ottomans, etc. for next to nothing on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace if you’re willing to invest in fabric and upholstery for a piece that’s truly one-of-a-kind!
