DAY TRIP TO ESSEX AND OLD SAYBROOK
Over the weekend we drove a little over an hour from our house up to Old Saybrook and then Essex to meander along the Connecticut coastline and let the boys run around while we took in all the beautiful architecture and landscaping these towns are known for. We walked an easy loop with the stroller through the historic Fenwick neighborhood (where Katharine Hepburn once spent her summers) and then headed Fresh Salt at the Saybrook Point Resort for a kid-friendly lunch on the water.
After lunch we drove about fifteen minutes from Old Saybrook to Essex for ice cream at Sweet P’s and iced coffee at the Essex Coffee & Tea Company, which we enjoyed at Essex Park, another dreamy spot with a gazebo and a rolling lawn overlooking the water where I could have happily camped out all day if it weren’t for two increasingly sleepy toddlers. Will and I have loved doing these mini weekend adventures to get out of the house with the boys without having to block off the entire weekend — you can see some other CT spots we’ve explored recently here, here, and here!

Thank you for sharing! I grew up in Old Saybrook so I love seeing these photos and hearing of the memories you’re making as a family! I would defiantly recommend adding Mystic and Stonington to your list of day trips if you haven’t already!
Hi Mackenzie,
Not sure you are getting my comments. I was wondering if you would share your pool contractor ? Your yard is stunning !

This looks wonderful! May I ask where you park when doing the walk around Fenwick? We’ve never been before!
There were a bunch of cars parked on Maple Ave. past the entrance to Nibang Ave. or you could park at the restaurant and walk over the causeway!
Next time stop in Madison and do the walk along middle beach road and v downtown
