If there’s one thing every girl needs to survive fall in style (and every guy for that matter), it’s a Barbour jacket. Lightweight enough for a cool breeze but easy to add layers underneath on cold winter days, it’s an outerwear investment that you’ll wear dozens of times each season. Because the silhouette is less slimming than a dress coat or trench, I like to pair mine with skinny jeans (these equestrian leggings would be perfect too) and tall boots. P.S. I’m on the lookout for a new pair of leather riding boots if anyone has any recs!
A few notes on sizing… For the jacket, I wear the US size 2 / UK size 6. And if you order this sweater one size up from your usual size (e.g. a small instead of the extra small), it will no joke be the comfiest item of clothing you own. And in case you were on the fence about a Barbour jacket, here’s another genius part of adding one to your outerwear collection: if you live somewhere with extra chilly winters, you can also order a zip-in liner for added warmth!
I don’t know how I grew up on the east coast without a Barbour jacket but now that I have one, I completely understand what all the fuss is about. We’ve officially reached the point in the season where you’d have to be insane to leave your apartment sans jacket, gloves, scarf, hat, boots, two pairs of socks, etc. What I’m loving about my new Barbour is that the silhouette is pretty tailored on the outside (and much warmer than my beloved field jacket) but leaves ample room for layering underneath and pairs well with all my existing winter accoutrements.
Following up yesterday’s 50+ gift ideas for her with gift ideas for the men in your life! Many of these are things I’ve given to my husband, dad, brothers, and/or father-in-law over the years and I hope they give you a little guidance as you start brainstorming your holiday shopping. The majority of items featured below will go on sale come Black Friday/Cyber Monday so feel free to bookmark and come back to this post if you’re not ready to start your shopping just yet!
I’m at the point in my pregnancy where nothing really fits and I’m more comfortable in pajamas than anything else. I’m desperate for it to warm up a bit so I can trade my winter coat for a few easy dresses — I think I felt cuter at the end of my pregnancy with Teddy when it was summer and I could throw on a flowy dress, slip into sandals, and call it a day (see: every outfit in this post). Between the two dresses in this post and the one I’m about to share here, I just need the weather to cooperate so I can power through these final six weeks in something besides these leggings (which are admittedly an everyday staple, pregnant or not).
I ordered this dress from Amazon on a whim and was surprised by how much I love it in person. I hate to spend a ton of money on clothing I’ll only wear during pregnancy, but this dress is not only crazy affordable but perfectly wearable pre- and post-pregnancy as well. It’s not a maternity style, but the swingy silhouette is easy to wear with a bump if you size up (I’m wearing the size S here). The fabric is also super soft for this price point so it really is comfortable either lounging around the house or out and about. I’m planning to wear it with a denim jacket or field jacket and sneakers for this transitional season, my go-to sandals or espadrilles this summer, and even with a Barbour jacket and booties come fall. I haven’t tried it yet, but this dress is a cute short-sleeved version that looks equally versatile, particularly if you live in a warmer climate!
On the heels of yesterday’s 50 gift ideas for her, today’s post is all about shopping for the men in your life! These are all gifts I’ve given to my husband, dad, brothers, and father-in-law over the years and I hope they give you some inspiration as you start tackling your holiday shopping. Many of these will go on sale for Black Friday and Cyber Monday in a couple weeks so feel free to bookmark this post and come back to it when you’re ready to shop!
If your family hasn’t done these yet, they’re such a fun group gift idea! Will and I gave these to all four of our parents last year and think it’s cool Teddy will have so much background on his grandparents’ DNA.
Relatedly, I think Will would agree the custom needlepoint belt I made for his 30th birthday is the best gift I’ve ever given him. It took me forever to finish, but what guy wouldn’t be thrilled to open a just started custom canvas on Christmas morning? This shop will help turn your ideas into a custom canvas and even outfit you with the threads you need to get started.
Will swapped out all our thermostats for these after we renovated our kitchen this spring — he loves that he can control the temperature of the entire house from his phone and I love the way they look! Win win.
We are obsessed with this thing in our house and I love getting DMs from you guys saying you love it too! This is one of those gifts that will be passed around on Christmas morning and probably ordered by everyone else in the house.
